Bytes, electricity, water and FREE beer!🍺 Free as in freedom, ofcourse...
We've learned so much in the last year or so about networks, micropayments and what TollGate fundamentally IS. Part of that journey has been that TollGate can be used for anything that streams, not just bytes. And it also led us to the creation of FIPS, which is an important part of our redesign.
We now have a way more modular approach that can fit different setups, centered around one TollGate protocol for streaming value for delivery of a resource.
Please join our Community call to hear more about it!
🇳🇱 We'll also be running a fleet of TollGates at @Bitcoin Amsterdam in a few weeks!

The tech is the tool, it's wielded very poorly right now. If/when we're in control of it we can live with it harmoniously and can be a great benefit. We just need to control the pieces of tech that we let into our lives.
I have a broom, which is a tool. It doesn't control me or pull me away from my goals when it's sitting there, unused. When the need arises for me to use a broom. It's there and does the job.
We can achieve the same dynamic with electronics. But we need to own it ourselves to be able to do that. Single-purpose hardware can help a great deal with that.
mp3 players, gps devices, texting devices. Good for security too...

I'm very much treating Myco as a POC though. But yes this kind of system is the goal.
I'm working on a PR to let openwrt routers auto-mesh with fips. It could live on there or a connected device as a headless myco. Then you nead only 1 or more phones to connect to one of the AP's and you have a route.
There's the 'discovery' tab that shows apps carried by the people you added to your 'circle'.
FYI i pushed a v0.1.0 yesterday which should have much better UI/UX for pairing. (NFC, yay!)

Not yet, but I def intend to allow bringing your own relay.

Probably using Jitsi or some of its audio primitives, being able to address directly will be a great benefit.

The invention of Nostr is like the invention of the shipping container.
It's just a fixed shape for data; Same width, height and length around which we can build our tools.
- The containership
- The cranes that lift it
- The trucks that move them
Social media just happened to be the first thing we've put inside this container...

2026-06-15 13:05:04 UTC

Yes data will still live at the higher layers. The form of the data is independent of the transport. Even with nostr.
That being said, the combination of Nostr + Blossom + FIPS is fucking powerful and we can do some really cool stuff because information (events + blobs) can now spread like wildfire through these networks.

We can build an internet where we DON'T CARE if it goes down...
Where commerce continues, and chats keep flowing. If we let data propagate in ways that mimmick nature, we can build truly resilient local networks that don't suffer when the wider world is unreachable.

i think it's a display issue, rather than a url issue. These urls at least preserve the content addressing. I don't like links that include nip05 identifiers because they'll break eventually. Now even if the client goes away i can still use the url to view the data elsewhere.
npubs in url's should be rendered (visually only) as @username in apps.

FIPS is a Transport-agnostic self-organizing mesh network. So it can run native (Ethernet, wifi, bluetooth, radio) or as an overlay (UDP, tcp, tor) and now Nostr even ;)
It is built with a compatibility layer for IPv6 applications so that regular software doesn't need to be modified to use it.
