If Block continues to integrate Bitcoin in everything they do and make a killer good payments integration for it in their Square suite that works with CashApp as well as other cheap Bitcoin wallet solutions, and the government doesn't harass the absolute shit out of them, the ease of service and the realization that a growing number of people are using Bitcoin to pay will incentivize small businesses to start getting on the bandwagon. Square is already the best and most frictionless payments solution for small businesses out there. Killer products right under people's noses are hard to ignore.

I feel like there are 2 very very different breeds of rationalism out there. Or maybe it's a sliding scale. There are those who are confident in their assertions because they went from pure doubt or basic axioms that are guaranteed to be true within a framework to where they are now in a valid manner, and there are those who made a mistake and still think they're certainly correct, and are unopen to reconsidering it. I'm reading a book by Thomas Sowell, Knowledge and Decisions, and he points out a very good point that applies to the latter about "Rationalists." He describes them as having all their confidence put into all the things which their intellect can articulate. That's very different from my kind of Rationalism. Makes me question whag I can call myself so people understand my stance on epistemology and process metaphysics. Daoist yes. Rationalist seems to not be specific enough, and Daoist doesn't emphasize my particular flavor of it enough. Hmm...

I'm a market anarchist; the voluntary principle is super important to me, but as far as a corporation or a small jurisdiction deciding how to manage its functioning, I bet Swiss democracy has a lot to teach me. Just had a thought. It's a long one so bear with me...
Public goods generally cannot be wholly controlled by a single private company. If people attempt to surrender control of the public good to a single private company attempting to enforce a monopoly on it, the public good will be neglected, other options will still remain on the market (and those able to understand this catastrophe and the existemce of alternatives will patronize them), and the private entity entrusted with sole control over the good will use the inadequacies of its own handiwork as a pretense to get more funding to attempt to "solve the crisis" that it either still believes it can solve or still tries to convince other fools that it can solve.
Government, as I hope is obvious, is the premier private entity whose whole business model is monopoly and promising more than it can achieve, and is predicated on exactly this dynamic.
A pet theory of mine about natural monopoly that I've been developing:
The information and feedback mechanisms necessary to properly manage a resource, if they cannot fit into one mind or one private decision making unit, indicate that the resource cannot be a natural monopoly.
A natural monopoly can only occur in matters such as an owner over its private property, where the economic actor who owns the monopoly has, exclusively, the complete information necessary to direct the resource (property) to its most economical/ethical/important uses. If there is such a thing as authority, this theoretical limit is the boundary of its exclusive domain.
A customer at the grocery store who buys an orange now has sole control of that orange, knows its location in his car and later at home, knows where the guns are in his house for defending his property, knows what he needs the orange for, etc. He knows very little about all the other oranges at the store, which are a different resource, and even less about all the oranges in existence, which the store does not have the knowledge to control either. It would be impossible for this store or this customer to control all oranges. Voting doesn't magically transfer the knowledge either. Each actor controls its resource, but the public good of oranges is not wholly controlled by anyone. #Bitcoin is the same exact way, a public good with a distrubuted and immutable ledger, incentive framework, and verification system that no single private entity controls. Property rights under nature work this way. It is the way the world is. We are actually living in anarchy right now, but most people, even anarchists are deluded into thinking we are not. The government is merely a criminal that results in tremendous opportunity costs versus the alternative of people acknowledging the truth of their limited understanding and that of other people.
This theory of property/natural monopoly usually works out to exactly the kind of private property delineations that libertarians define. Sole ownership of a resource is determined not only by deontological or pragmatic oughts, nor only by the norms that tend to develop in greater degrees of rationality and human capital, but also by the very nature of reality and the frontier of possibilities itself. It is an observation of the Natural Law, the way things actually work as a fact.

Main fun takeaway I got from this about #Bitcoin is that people will only ever stop paying for it when there is a better alternative. And there is no better alternative. It is the apex money that is going to be forcing governments to shape up and compete or accept it as their standard. There is no government that will ever issue money that is better than Bitcoin. If there ever were a free market alternative that was actually better, then this is what would overtake Bitcoin, and in that case, good! No matter what, we will have good money. A form of money like Bitcoin that anyone can use is inevitable now that this technology and incentive structure is in place!
As per usual, as has been happening for hundreds of thousands of years, humanity adopts industry technologies that facilitate better living and the ability to do greater things. Once the technology is invented, it doesn't go away. It becomes part of the society forever, even if it is relegated to the background or iteratively modified: the axe, the sling, writing, the abacus, beef jerky, the automaton, the ledger, and now the permissionless immutable ledger.
This innovation is going to spawn an industrial revolution of the global south like we have never fucking seen, and a revolution of taking power back from governments, fascist bankers, and criminals the world over. The ledger caused the industrial revolution that brought about modern capitalism with so much industry, entrepreneurship, and high living standards. The decentralized, permissionless immutable ledger is a similar advancement that steers us into sustainable, voluntary capitalism, which is all of the good aspects of what we have now amplified to 11.

It might also be that certain parts of their brain are acting rational from their limited scope. A lack of intellectual honesty is effectively a barrier to information flow. The mind is composed of pieces that operate in conjunction to perform logical and processual tasks. Operating on bad info can result in inefficient and seemingly illogical outcomes. Sometimes people just need to realize that what is really blocking them is their failure to think, not their failure to not drink.
I made an economics budget line and indifference curve diagram for my friend yesterday about why it is actually completely rational from a certain point of view (in her case, a short term thinking point of view) why she will not work on a learning project if her laptop is set aside instead of on her desk, even though she would be happier to have gotten it out and worked on it a while, yet she will start it if the laptop is already out. There is an initial cost that is great enough to not want to move and expend the energy, yet that cost reduces to very little once the laptop is out and the additional reward of doing the work becomes manifest. It would be an additional burden if there was a cost to even remembering that you have a project to work on and where the laptop is. People who drink alcohol frequently have similar costs that they are unwilling to bear or unaware that it is of prime importance or would be, had they taken a step back and considered from another point of view, often a longer time horizon.

I wish the Mad Max wiki were more consistent and fleshed out. I feel that he should recognize that he is right but entertain other ideas in case they rhyme with some truth that he is not yet glimpsing, to further round out his rhetoric and takes on things and offer a compelling, rational perspective that can compete with other narratives about the world even in the uninitiated.

In some (not all) of his proofs, he takes the particular and magically makes it universal. He sometimes appeals to collectives as if they have a property right in their own right that is of the same urgency/importance as individual rights (national borders, legality of war). And he recently has been making the claim that positive analysis of markets is not only generally inefficient and a less sound basis for economic science, but that it is categorically a waste of all the resources put into it. What of the people who would be more convinced by that research?? And what if there was a flaw in the accepted deductions or definitions of the preeminent rationalist school of economic thought? (human error is rampant in the sciences, especially in our highly politicized, propagandized environment - what makes Austrian economics and his own work guaranteed to be infallible? perhaps some redundancy is, especially if voluntarily funded and unbiased, useful after all)

M1 Finance just pulled a fast one on me. Violated the contract I had with them to utilize their credit card, which I paid for and was happy to keep paying for, because they changed the terms. I needed to have "enough assets under management" under the new terms, rather than paying for it. They didn't make this clear in their notice to me of the changed terms for M1 Plus, that the credit card was going to be closed, and they closed the account this morning with no advance warning. If my assets are not enough for them to honor a contract, I am taking my ass somewhere else. I don't take abuse from inefficient corporate entities. I highly disagree. There are lots of resources that are scarce. Like shitcoin scams, they can only do so many of those before people catch on. Decent TVs that don't have crappy processors and bloat are pretty scarce too. And PS1 memory cards.
