Brollup is doing what Fedimint was meant to do. You have a channel and your channel counterparty is an MPC quorum rather than an individual.
I’m shocked that Fedimint does’t work this way at all! It’s just a single node managing the channel.

You have an npub, and you have lightning channels that are associated with your npub (instead of channel IDs). You can make a lightning payment from your npub to another npub, and everyone can see it (unlike traditional lightning payments, which are private between the involved parties). The payment is visible to all because you inscribe minimal data on-chain about it. While this is a privacy nightmare, it's good for variability and traceability; people can track who paid whom, when, and how much using a block explorer like etherscan.io. Since payments are verifiable, you can atomically exchange your Bitcoin for non-Bitcoin assets such as stablecoins and financial derivatives on a virtual machine with a global state.

It’s almost as if Bitcoin was built for Brollup, rather than Brollup being built for Bitcoin. It feels like Bitcoin’s ultimate evolutionary destiny is to transmute into the *Brollup state*.
History supports this: Brollup wouldn’t be possible without any of the earlier protocol updates—timelocks, segwit, and taproot.

Yes, you can perform nonce preprocessing with FROST as well, but the problem is that a disruptive signer can force a re-do of the entire signing session. This means you must repeatedly attempt the signing session until it succeeds, and therefore you need to run a server.
In contrast, with NOIST, a valid partial signature is guaranteed to produce a valid full signature when combined with others. A signer cannot force a re-do of the entire session.
