Blue is still intense but getting easier and I'm getting more confident. Singing gets me through it when it's tense, especially during insertion. Breathing exercises are okay, but singing gets me through it.
And yeah, I took a rest day today, mostly for my feet and legs, but otherwise I just keep walking lots of miles every day. I feel amazing.

I totally feel the who medieval European choke with regards to just about anything.
Personally, I've never really had the opportunity to do TTRPG of any sort before, so I can't speak to D&D or any others. I've had interest, because I just like the idea of sitting around the table with a bunch of friends and doing something imaginary, but also, I've never really been fortunate enough to be part of a *friend group* like that. All of my friends have always been kind of one on one for the most part.

Now, to be clear, I hesitated posting this here. A very sizable portion of my friends and mutuals here are broke trans people like myself. I don't want material support right now from anyone who can't afford it. I would be mortified.
But ultimately, this is my favorite place to share my writing, and I know that there are people that care about me here. I'm already so grateful for the support that I'm receiving from people I've met here. I have people I've met here already scheduling calls, in-person visits, and even substantial caretaking after my surgery.
I'm posting because I believe that mutual aid goes both ways and as difficult as it always is to accept help within the society we live, believing in mutual aid means both giving and accepting.
And I also know that when people are asking how to support, they offer because the want to give, not out of obligation, and, well, people have been asking.
Realistically, I never would have achieved a fraction of the things I've achieved in my life if it weren't for accepting support. And moreover, I wouldn't be where I am today, less than 3 weeks from surgery, if it weren't for the support, friendship, insight, and guidance from people I've met here.
So, thank you. I'm grateful.

well, as a follow-up, I'm happy to confirm that today I got a used but super nice model Brother printer that was super expensive when new, paid cash, super cheap, super condition, and extra toner cartridge and cables, etc. I also made sure that I could still get replacement generic toner for it and I can. All is super :)

When I was a child, there was a rule at home. My estranged father was very proud of it, bragging about it even just a few years ago before we went no contact.
The rule was that if Lucy asks for something, if she even so much as expresses desire for something, she can't have it. There was not a corresponding rule for my estranged older sibling, just me.
I spent a lifetime learning not to want or desire, to suppress want and desire. Transition and my wonderful spouse have been teaching me how to want and desire, and it hasn't been easy, but it has made life so much more worth living. I wouldn't be here if I hadn't finally allowed myself the desire to exist, and everything I want and desire springs forth from this.
I'm not sure about abandoning want and desire. For me, it was pain, not relief.
Maybe I was doing it wrong. On the other hand, I would never have survived to find out, and the glimmering hint of my existence, hidden as it was, would have been extinguished in obscurity.
I'm not saying I believe all of my desires will be fulfilled, but I'm never willingly going to go back to a life, if it can even be called a life, void of want and desire.

well, the issue is not about automation, per se, or work in the abstract sense. It has to do with the death of our world, capitalist exploitation, capitalist hoarding, dispossession, etc.
I'm also opposed to systems of wage-labor and am deeply sympathetic to contract workers, freelancers, and self-employed workers.
As far as looking for tips on finding a streak app, I just mean one that isn't tied to language or anything, really, but that you can set your own goals.
As for language learning, Duolingo is just another spaced repetition system with a cute owl and mildly gamified. But there are definitely better options available-- Anki decks are free and customizable, which is what I'll likely be using as my replacement.

Now, whenever I see my #Duolingo streak add a day, I'll feel shame, not a sense of accomplishment.

I'm on day 1315 of my #Duolingo streak. It's not a perfect tool, but I'm a linguist and I enjoy it for the sake of hobby, if nothing else. I actually think it now has a really decent French program, which is their flagship language.
But now Duolingo is becoming an "#AI first" company, which means that they're firing all their contractors (but keeping employees for now) and replacing them with AI. They also just launched 148 new language courses using generative AI.
What the actual fuck?

Btw, since I had orchi in February and gallbladder removal last week, I have an interesting note.
- I feel zero sense of loss when it comes to orchi.
- I don't at all regret the gallbladder removal, and I'm not sad per se, but not sure the right word-- I almost feel a tinge of sadness like I've let down my gallbladder, like I failed it a little, and so that's why it had to leave. Only a little, and I was actually good to my gallbladder. Still, though.
Yeah, despite being so happy to have my gallbladder removed, I have a greater sense of mild ennui at the removal of my gallbladder which could have physically killed me in its own revenge plot than I do about the removal of two functioning testosterone factories.
This isn't a surprise, but yeah, I definitely get why people have a greater sense of regret about basically every single surgery vs trans surgeries.

On a different note only really relevant for chaosfem users, although I've been a part of chaosfem.tw since before we even had an instance name, I usually use my alt account @npub1qf9…40c4 for moderation to keep things separate and clean. While I haven't kept it strictly secret that I'm a mod, it also might be a small surprise to most.
I mostly haven't been public about it because I just haven't felt it relevant or the need to discuss it. We all tend to stay quiet about the mod work just because we love that this community exists and love seeing it succeed. This particular occasion, given the nature of the incident, I felt it important that this issue gains more visibility, especially among our own users, it also other instances that care about these types of issues, something my alt account can't do because I don't use it for posting.

# 🚨Mod Announcement🚨
Our instance, chaosfem.tw, has made the decision to defederate from Pixelfed instances, at least for the time being. We feel the need to announce this as it may affect our users-- Pixelfed claims to have 150,000 monthly active users. Some of our own users have accounts there and likewise many of our users interact with other Pixelfed accounts from our instance.
## Why?
Pixelfed is leaking our data, and, it seems, the data of any other instance it federates with on Mastodon. We've been confused and tracking this for some time, but have been uncertain what was happening exactly. This post sums up the issue better than I can:

It's clear that this leak is not a priority for Dansup, the sole maintainer of Pixelfed.
However, it's a danger for instances like ours, with vulnerable users, but realistically, it's a danger for any instance to expect privacy and have it neglected and disrespected to this degree.
## Will we federate with Pixelfed instances in the future?
Idk, possibly? But at the very least, we must have assurance that a particular pixelfed instance has been updated to v1.12.5 in order for us to even consider federating again. However, there are serious concerns about the fact that Pixelfed is run by someone who is hostile and neglectful to the Mastodon community and has a history of not taking security concerns seriously. And moreover, Pixelfed doesn't even have federated blocking implemented, so the only thing that can be done is to defederate, and even then, this only affects *new* posts.
## Difficulty
Like Mastodon, Pixelfed is a separate project built on ActivityPub protocol, so it's not as simple as blocking another instance. This is blocking the entire project, and the instances running it. We don't make this decision lightly, and we hope you understand why we felt this necessary to protect our users who deserve an expectation of privacy.

Yeah, similar for me. I still haven't read the book yet, but as for the therapy comment, it's not a fictional world for me.
Therapy is not accessible for me, though I've definitely tried really hard to access it. I won't list all the reasons, of which there are many. Suffice it to say, therapy may as well not exist at all with how little access there is for me, and it's never been accessible in my life. It was easier to get access to a neuropsychologist in order to get some neurospicy diagnoses than it has been to find a therapist. It's just not something available to everyone.

You're absolutely right that this is a choice-- they choose to exploit and oppress when they could do otherwise, and I further articulate in the piece on my website that regardless of legal or not, the incentives and the structure are what matter-- the fact that they choose this is what matters.

oh damn, I should have thought of this. Following for same question. I almost always write in Markdown and use a lot of italics and occasional bold to help people parse dense text, and this is achieved with asterisks, so it forms that way when I write even in other spaces like Mastodon. I'd love to know the answer.

When working as a wage-laborer, you are not an owner of the product, nor are you the owner of the means of production– the factory, the tools, the land, etc. (again, these also are all things created and/or maintained by the laborers). In your capacity as a wage-laborer, you aren't even really a person– you are simply one of the expendable (and exploitable) costs of doing business.

When you work for an employer, you might imagine that you work for your boss, but your boss may simply be a manager, another laborer who works for the company; however, it's not really the company that you work for, either. You work for the owners of the company. To put it in other terms, you work for a landlord.

This makes a lot of sense. I wonder if the tradeoff of higher accessibility by people who wouldn't normally read a text post would counter that. That's something to think about.
Also, it's good to know that you would be back and forth between audio and text. I guess I kind of created an image in my mind that some people are text people and some people are podcast people lol -- this helps me realize it's actually potentially helpful for a wider selection and overlap of people than I was conceiving, and ultimately, making a better experience for people reading/listening is a bigger goal than worrying about boosts.

Even basic "good idea/bad idea" answers are welcome, but your insight either as a consumer or podcaster would also be welcome.
Context:
I'm also a filmmaker and have professional gear and expertise, that's not an issue, and I know a lot of people just use their phones, anyway-- that's not my concern. I'm much more concerned about the added time vs utility for people who read/listen to my writing. I could even do a video podcast if I wanted, but that sounds exhausting and introduces even more friction to my process than simply adding audio.
- I would like to add accessibility
- I want to offer people the ability to consume it in the way that's most convenient for them
- Yes, I want to increase discovery for my own subscriber growth
- I'm not a huge podcast consumer (though sometimes) due to auditory processing issues, so I don't fully understand the ecosystem even as a consumer
Questions:
- Is this a good idea?
- Does this help you with other newsletters/writers you follow?
- As for accessibility, do people who use text readers appreciate having a human voice or are they so used to the text readers that it's not that big of a deal after a while?
- What am I not considering?
