well, the issue is not about automation, per se, or work in the abstract sense. It has to do with the death of our world, capitalist exploitation, capitalist hoarding, dispossession, etc.
I'm also opposed to systems of wage-labor and am deeply sympathetic to contract workers, freelancers, and self-employed workers.
As far as looking for tips on finding a streak app, I just mean one that isn't tied to language or anything, really, but that you can set your own goals.
As for language learning, Duolingo is just another spaced repetition system with a cute owl and mildly gamified. But there are definitely better options available-- Anki decks are free and customizable, which is what I'll likely be using as my replacement.

Btw, since I had orchi in February and gallbladder removal last week, I have an interesting note.
- I feel zero sense of loss when it comes to orchi.
- I don't at all regret the gallbladder removal, and I'm not sad per se, but not sure the right word-- I almost feel a tinge of sadness like I've let down my gallbladder, like I failed it a little, and so that's why it had to leave. Only a little, and I was actually good to my gallbladder. Still, though.
Yeah, despite being so happy to have my gallbladder removed, I have a greater sense of mild ennui at the removal of my gallbladder which could have physically killed me in its own revenge plot than I do about the removal of two functioning testosterone factories.
This isn't a surprise, but yeah, I definitely get why people have a greater sense of regret about basically every single surgery vs trans surgeries.

# 🚨Mod Announcement🚨
Our instance, chaosfem.tw, has made the decision to defederate from Pixelfed instances, at least for the time being. We feel the need to announce this as it may affect our users-- Pixelfed claims to have 150,000 monthly active users. Some of our own users have accounts there and likewise many of our users interact with other Pixelfed accounts from our instance.
## Why?
Pixelfed is leaking our data, and, it seems, the data of any other instance it federates with on Mastodon. We've been confused and tracking this for some time, but have been uncertain what was happening exactly. This post sums up the issue better than I can:

It's clear that this leak is not a priority for Dansup, the sole maintainer of Pixelfed.
However, it's a danger for instances like ours, with vulnerable users, but realistically, it's a danger for any instance to expect privacy and have it neglected and disrespected to this degree.
## Will we federate with Pixelfed instances in the future?
Idk, possibly? But at the very least, we must have assurance that a particular pixelfed instance has been updated to v1.12.5 in order for us to even consider federating again. However, there are serious concerns about the fact that Pixelfed is run by someone who is hostile and neglectful to the Mastodon community and has a history of not taking security concerns seriously. And moreover, Pixelfed doesn't even have federated blocking implemented, so the only thing that can be done is to defederate, and even then, this only affects *new* posts.
## Difficulty
Like Mastodon, Pixelfed is a separate project built on ActivityPub protocol, so it's not as simple as blocking another instance. This is blocking the entire project, and the instances running it. We don't make this decision lightly, and we hope you understand why we felt this necessary to protect our users who deserve an expectation of privacy.

I almost always write in Markdown and use a lot of italics and occasional bold to help people parse dense text, and this is achieved with asterisks, so it forms that way when I write even in other spaces like Mastodon. I'd love to know the answer.

Even basic "good idea/bad idea" answers are welcome, but your insight either as a consumer or podcaster would also be welcome.
Context:
I'm also a filmmaker and have professional gear and expertise, that's not an issue, and I know a lot of people just use their phones, anyway-- that's not my concern. I'm much more concerned about the added time vs utility for people who read/listen to my writing. I could even do a video podcast if I wanted, but that sounds exhausting and introduces even more friction to my process than simply adding audio.
- I would like to add accessibility
- I want to offer people the ability to consume it in the way that's most convenient for them
- Yes, I want to increase discovery for my own subscriber growth
- I'm not a huge podcast consumer (though sometimes) due to auditory processing issues, so I don't fully understand the ecosystem even as a consumer
Questions:
- Is this a good idea?
- Does this help you with other newsletters/writers you follow?
- As for accessibility, do people who use text readers appreciate having a human voice or are they so used to the text readers that it's not that big of a deal after a while?
- What am I not considering?

I don't understand sarcasm well, so I'll answer this seriously. Enforcement is the definition of the Executive Branch, it's the military, intel agencies, and federal cops of every flavor, et al. The President is Commander in Chief, and the peak of the enforcement hierarchy.
If he chooses not to acknowledge or abide by the Judicial or Legislative Branches, the Judicial branch has no enforcement mechanisms. The Legislative Branch, in theory, is, in theory, able to keep the Executive Branch in check by the so-called *power of the purse*, which is now compromised.
So, the *only* thing within this paradigm that can stop the coup is the refusal of people within this hierarchy to be complicit, but of course, they are being purged.
The only other thing that can stop him is massive resistance by the people, resisting against the monopoly of violence held by the state, and wielded through authoritarian power.
And yes, many of DOGE are already deputized. With plans for much more and much worse.

I appreciate this suggestion a lot. Here is where my head is at with Patreon.
So, I keep looking at Patreon out of the corner of my eye, because they do their own processing, but I'm nervous because I know I've heard of multiple times they've hurt their customers and seemingly bowed to political pressure on issues. Admittedly, I don't know the full details aside from the fact that they caught my attention in the past.
I'm not writing them off completely, but I'm admitting they make me squeamish. I'm curious to know what type of reassurance is felt by others using them.

Y'all, this is driving me wild. I've done my research and I'm stuck. I've done so much digging and I'm at a loss. I don't want to use Stripe or Paypal.

So, first, I address this to an extent in the piece I wrote, but also, this isn't about convincing people that this is genocide, it's about convincing others they don't need an *expert* to tell them what they already see. Because of this, I didn't make a single argument in the piece for *why* it's genocide. I'm working on those arguments for a much larger project I'm working on with others that will come out later.
That being said, outside of the explanations I gave in the post, yes, we *do* fall within those descriptions, and it's a colonizer mindset that makes us believe that we don't. As I mention in the piece, even the person who coined the term genocide and led to the charge to get this resolution passed believed that colonization was the source of genocide.

If the political situation wasn't what it was, I might not be so concerned about it. But people have been arguing with me to enable contributions for my newsletter so they can pay me and they finally pressured me into it, and since I write radical leftist / anti-fascist and queer/trans content under the moniker *Revoluciana*, I want to make sure I'm a little insulated from payments being immediately shut down just as the fascists come to terror.
Trying to migrate everything I can within the entire framework of all of that out of the US. Servers, payments, DNS/registrar, etc.

I want to avoid using #Stripe
- It's US-based, and I'm a political target
- Stripe is hosting Zuck as a keynote speaker
- They're getting cozy with AI
I want suggestions/insight on anything
Current frontrunner, can anyone tell me thoughts about #Helcim as a company/recurring payment processor? I'm considering them because:
- Based in Canada
- Messaging about putting people first, which I generally don't trust with any company, but given that I live in the US, the fact that it's not visibly white supremacy makes a difference
- I wish that was a joke
- User experience seems smooth on both sides of the transaction.
- International payments
- Don't need a US address

To be clear, this filtering is different than the filtering I'm familiar with using Tusky.
I can filter terms, for example, but that just means it won't show me those posts.
The way it is implemented in the above app is that it *filters* them so they show up in your notifications, but they are essentially obscured by a CW button. So, instead of scorched earth on a term or unknown server or whatever quality you're filtering, it's only softly obscured, so you can still decide in the moment whether you want to see it or not.
I hope that makes sense.

How long is it socially acceptable to sit at a small table in a relatively busy (but not full, there are available tables) cafe in the rural US and type away on my keyboard?
Sorry. Let me clarify. How long is it acceptable for a visibly queer, neurospicy transfem to sit at a table?
Is there a punchcard to track my time, or like, I do what I want, you're not my mom and I don't do what she tells me, anyway, or what she would tell me if I'd spoken to her at some point in the last *sighs and waves in the general direction of spacetime as a concept*?

Help?
What #Mastoson apps are everyone using these days? I've been happily using #Tusky for years, but wanting some advice on both #android and #ios #iphone.
I'm not sure the best suggestions anymore or what's new or which have had substantial updates, etc. Am I missing out on anything on Tusky?
Also, while I'm at it, an added question, separate from the first, any recommendations for #crossposting with #bluesky?

Oh! I should mention, the official Mastodon app is trash. Or at least it used to be, but I'm pretty certain the things that used to be an issue still are.
I used Tusky on Android, but there are other good options. I can't remember what everyone else tends to use for iPhone.
The official app feels designed to centralize people's experience within a .social bubble. It used to just be an on ramp, and probably still is. I'd suggest getting a different app.

Fedi doesn't really work for influencers and "audience building" so to speak. People are really immune to it. Friction is built-in, especially because there is no algorithm.
So, instead of audience building, it's more like community participation and relationship building. Building an audience is not really a goal here. Real conversations and discussions and sharing of information are the goal. Authenticity is rewarded with authenticity.
People don't so much *build audiences*, they find mutuals.
At least, that's my experience and the experience of most of the people in my corner of Mastodon.
All that being said, while that friction encourages authentic interaction, it is also difficult to get started on here specifically because there is no algorithm showing you people and stuff you might find interesting in order to find mutuals who click for you, have similar interests, etc.
Two of the biggest things that can help:
- you're on .social, which is like a welcome lobby. Some people stay there and that's fine, but people often migrate to servers that have a lot of similar interests so that your local feed is filled with stuff and people you're more likely to click with. But you might not know the servers that would be best for you without getting a feel for the users.
- When I started some time ago, I vaguely remember that my tactic was to find a few people I liked, and then I just followed a ton of the people they followed, and started following and joining the conversation when I had something to add, and unfollowing when I decided that I wasn't interested in something someone was posting. Similarly, you can follow hashtags, and that's a help, too, to introduce people to your feed with similar interests.
In other words, if you want to build mutuals, it's more about finding others than it is about helping them find you.
But like, conversation and authenticity is pretty key, and bios with information about what you're about help people decide if they want to connect or not.
Oh, and one more bonus tip is to do an introduction post.
Hashtag the word introduction. Hashtag a bunch of stuff about yourself. Then pin that to your timeline. Makes a huge difference.

Is Microsoft Teams able to do this by chance? (Downloaded through the app store but linked to work)
Also, how does someone with a site so new end up on a naughty list like this? Is it *because* it's new, or could it be filtering words like "fascist" or "Nazi" that I'm literally using to describe the Holocaust?

Need help from some tech friends!
A contact in the US sent me this screenshot telling me that they were trying to get to my website and it came up with this screenshot and wouldn't let them access my site without significant effort to work around. Chrome and Firefox, both on mobile. They also have no idea what FortiGuard is (neither do I)
Help?
Other notes, I have had my domain for quite a while, but it was directed to a Hugo site on Netlify, but within the last month it has been redirected to Ghost(Pro) (hosted).
This is the first time I've had an issue pop up blocking access, but I've had quite a few visitors with no issues, in the US and outside the US.

to clarify, are you asking for sources? Or are you bemoaning the fact that they never kept data after their relocation?
Hoping that doesn't at all sound combative-- I want to get you sources when I get a chance if you're requesting that in order to be helpful, but I also want to express that I empathize if it's the lack of record, etc.
So much erasure, the fact that they never even take the time or effort to document their oppression when it's applied to queer/trans people, especially when our identities are erased and invisible.
