I delivered this lecture on Our Lady of Guadalupe and the unlikely preparation that was already present in the native Mexican/Nahua culture of the 16th century--a longing and a question that found a transformative answer on a little hill outside Tenochtitlan.

I am stuck with Windows 11 for the office and can't believe every time I open File Explorer I have to resize the window and columns from the cramped, unusable arrangement in the upper left corner it defaults to. Every time. If ever there was a dictionary entry for "open disregard for end users", this would be the classic entry.

I wish someone had told me this when I started. I've settled on Debian 12 for my old machines that won't run Windows 11 (and have ancient NVIDIA graphics cards) and I am taking notes from Linux TV on Fedora for the day when the things I need for the office are capable of being run on my main PC on Linux. I tried a bunch of other distros that resulted mostly in just confusion and unnecessary toil.

Dual citizenship is another question from deportation, I think. Non citizens can still have legal status. As far as dual citizenship is concerned, those who have citizenship through their parentage and then citizenship through ius soli seem more likely to be reasonably deported. Those who would become de facto "stateless" should give us pause for the denial of citizenship. Obviously that would have to be judged in a more individual basis through the asylum process, presently overloaded to unbelievable proportions. I believe 17 million applications for asylum were received between 2021-2024.

This is what has been puzzling to me--what the long game is on this EO when The constitutional amendment seems so clear on its face. The whole thing stands or falls on the meaning of "jurisdiction" as you rightly point out.
I liked R R Reno's perspective in a recent article referencing the concept of adverse possession in the common law, specifically to address situations where someone squats on property for a certain length of time uncontested. For those who have been living and working here for many years and working with tacit permission, and under a legal framework that tacitly permits it, or even invites it, a path to legal status seems reasonable. They have entered our jurisdiction, tacitly, so to speak. But for the recent arrivals, and the birth tourism abuse, that is another question.

Agreed.on all points, but I am wondering what the administration arguing to justify it. Is it that birthright citizenship provides an incentive? My understanding is that this amendment was intended to address the effects of slavery, which is a kind of forced immigration, but that's not what we are dealing with here. My 81 year old father and I got out for a hunt, finally. It was a perfect morning. So perfect, in fact, that I wasn't five minutes in the stand before a decent buck came blistering in to see what was going on. So I've been taking cello lessons since March and practicing most every day. I found an excellent teacher that promised me we would play no actual music but focus on scales, arpeggios, and etudes for the first year. This would be very unsatisfying, he told me, but it would give me all the tools I needed to tackle actual music when the time came.
I was astounded to learn a few weeks ago that the first "real' music I'd be learning with him was the Prelude to Bach's first solo Cello Suite, which arrived in thr mail just a few days ago.
And he was right. This piece that sounded absolutely impossible to me just a few months ago feels like it's within reach.
There's more to this instrument than I ever would have guessed, but that's what living is for. I am glad I live in a world after Bach.

I really like the Windows Powertoys "Quick Accents" method (letter held down + spacebar) but can't seem to find a way to replicate it on #Debian #Linux.
I tried Dvorak International but could install it on Windows due to being quarantined by my Antivirus.
I'm used to being fairly niche in my interests but this is next level...

Phone etiquette is so bad.
People call 3-4 times repeatedly in succession instead of leaving a message.
The number of times people leave voicemails without a name is bizarre, like I'm dealing with some kind of sovereign that has no need to condescend to introduce themselves.
Or when I answer, they just start issuing their demands without so much as a greeting.
It's harsh, graceless, and discouraging. We live in a coarse world.

For what it's worth, the Catholic tradition has quite a long history of arguing that certain things which are immoral should not therefore also be illegal.
I am drawn to the moral agnostic quality of the Bitcoin protocol, as you are. It presents a certain set of trade-offs that are very compelling in our present cultural and political setting, as well as in relationship to the weaknesses of human nature in general. But where I would draw the line versus where a true maximalist would draw it is at the point where this agnostic stance is used as the basis to order my own life and the life of society as a whole. I believe this is to commit the same error as those who subscribe to scientism. The scientific method is true and powerful, so far as it goes. The problem is when it is misused an exhaustive explanation of all of reality.
The two cases you describe above are objectionable to many, agreed. How would you address a third case, namely: Those who are incapable of deciding for themselves whether or not pornography or marijuana are things they can enjoy without being enslaved or damaged by them? The difficulty is to recognize that some people, in the act of trying these things so as to determine whether or not they can enjoy them without abuse, will be compromised by the very act of trying them.

If "fundamentalism" just means "people who believe a religion is true" then it's not a helpful term.
The term originated with a pushback against liberalizing tendencies in 20th century American Christianity, especially the Scopes trial, and was a term adopted by its adherents to describe their focus on the "fundamentals" of biblical teaching in their literal formulations as printed in the Bible. In other words, it's a variety of [Protestant American] Christianity and there are many Christians who aren't fundamentalists.

With regard to the porn/pot legalization question, I just asked because there are lots of reasons why someone could consider porn or pot dangerous besides "it's in my holy book, God said so".

You don't need to agree with these positions to at least acknowledge they are not "fundamentalist" in any sense of the term.

I do, however, believe that God's revealed teaching is always in harmony with reason, and it's not accurate to dismiss a moral position as "fundamentalist" when there could be any number of reasons why a position is held.

You can't run the mempool service without having a full archival node, but for the purposes of a personal server, there aren't many other downsides to pruning the blockchain down under 1GB

Slowly making headway on converting some old school computers that will soon be obsolete (can't run Windows 11) into personal servers with @nprofile…hvzm #startOS
This one was a thorny task... after getting the RAM upgraded to 32 GB and swapping out the old hard drive for a 120GB SSD that I had laying about, I had to fiddle around with boot drives and all sorts of nonsense I don't really understand until (with some help from the Telegram support channel) we got it working.
Maybe I'll put some of these up on the Nostr marketplace here on #coracle soon....
