I love those sorts of places, and I've always wanted to get in there and try to photo them. There used to be some in Cornwall, down in the gullies. I think you'd need a very wide lens and possibly a source of light too, often very murky places!

The Pound. This little yard is the site where stray animals used to be impounded in the 16th and 17th centuries, owners having to pay a fine for their release. The shape marked with bricks shows the site of the wartime ARP wardens' hut, also the site where one of the local cricket clubs (The Wardens) was founded!

It was an awful thing. But it's strange to remember that when I walked that section of Hadrian's wall a few years ago, I took a nice photo of the Milecastle in the next valley, but walked right past the sycamore, ignoring it completely! I'd not seen the film or photos, and wasn't impressive coming down the path by the wall. Wish I'd realised then!

Rotating rail bridge; no longer used, this used to cross the canal [EDIT: in Oxford], and would be swung one way to allow canal traffic and then back to allow trains to cross!.
