Speaking #solarpunk #ttrpg #gamedesign I'm pretty interested in https://www.rascal.news/forge-bonds-through-pit-stops-and-awkward-road-trip-conversations-in-runeway/ , a journey / coming-of-age / emotional growth game which doesn't suggest that we resolve every problem with violence.
It reminds me of Wanderhome.
It's much more fantastical than the Solarpunk stories I like, but I absolutely love the illustrations there.

There are RPGs which talk about loss and grieving, but few do it as well as CtL.

If you remember my scathing review of Kim Stanley Robinson's "Ministry of the Future", my main criticism is that the book refused to engage with India, Global South and the grassroot movements.

Alternatively, instead of going #solarpunk utopian -> hard won, we can go dystopian -> utopian.
An illustration of a disaster site with clear damage, homes, infrastructure, livelihoods lost.
The more details you see however, the more you realize: it's a postcard of people helping each other, where everyone is accounted for and cared for.
We go from the shock of destruction into a power of community.

Part of me wonders if the artistic device of "the more you stare, the more unsettling it gets" of Jeff Lee Johnson's #art might work well for #solarpunk . Hear me out:
1. A utopian Solarpunk (yoghurt) postcard like hundreds you've seen, but the details show the history of the disasters, scars on the community and the infrastructure, slowly healed. It's a hard-won, lived-in future with real people in it, not just a marketing ad.

A lot of #solarpunk visions might seem sterile because they show a #utopia already realized, but with no trace of the struggle, no cultural shifts arising from the period of change.
If I was to imagine a stabilized, sustainable Solarpunk world it would seem very alien and unintuitive to us.
It's because it's not a technological change that's needed - but a cultural one.
Things we already can do but can't perceive or describe them as viable.

The whole project is about our intentionality and agency in imagining a way out of the Climate Crisis. Please do not outsource it to machines.
I would be more okay with an AI-generated image based on a powerful human concept than a masterful drawing of an inhumane idea.

As the historian Ada Palmer stated in one of her interviews, in order to imagine our civilization respond to the Climate Change, we need first to be able to acknowledge the value of partial victories and the futures of hard work.
Hollywood taught us to perceive the world in black and white, where the protagonists either completely win (saving the world) or lose. Their stories don’t have space for the daily struggles and partial victories – or relegate them to just a montage.

The hacker culture has always been about transgressions, but the more we defined ourselves against something the more we lost the ability to define ourselves in support of something else. We forgot how to imagine our way out of complex problems!
Despite creating some of the most collaborative projects on the planet we never learned how to tell stories of working together, praising the efforts and learning from the dramas. We kept our dreams small and fragmented.

In a world rocked by ever-growing social political and crises we feel more and more powerless and alienated. The technologies which gave us the feeling of agency became a tool the establishment used against the people – and the planet itself. We want to act, to protest, but the very act of rebellion became aestheticized and de-clawed, with mega-corporations selling us copyrighted anonymous masks, inviting us to be safe, predictable rebels.
