I do fear that we are endlessly building out the Bitcoin ecosystem without a clear direction or idea for what problems we are solving. Many of us are highly motivated and continue to build, educate and evangelize, but few of us really use Bitcoin, or are driven by a desire to use it. We are building for ‘others,’ be it the developing world, the marginalized or agents. But do we understand what they need or want?

Watching doctors in ‘The Pitt’ hand out fentanyl and morphine like candy to otherwise generally healthy children and adults is definitely quite a black-pilling experience. I’m also afraid of cultivating relationships with merchants and drive business to them to later see Bitcoiners spend their sats at Square merchants. Good for Bitcoin, but discouraging for me. There’s no reward in being an early adopter. Widespread Bitcoin adoption makes circular economies meaningless. The theory was always that small-scale adoption leads to wide-spread adoption, but that may be disproven

It’s a lot of work to orange pill, onboard and maintain a merchant, and we’re quite proud of having a somewhat stable sats economy in Vancouver. In the U.S., there were never any grassroots efforts to build something like this, and yet they now have 99% of the merchants

Despite the importance of railroads throughout America’s history and the rich heritage of private railway cars, there have only been two Presidential Rail Cars, and no Presidential Train. The first car was built for Abraham Lincoln in 1865, and the second for Roosevelt in 1942. In between, U.S. presidents just booked regular train cars. British monarchs have had an entire Royal Train at their disposal since 1897, and the current Royal Train is still in service today (but won’t be for long).

The second and maybe even more comfortable lounge on the Canadian, located in the Skyline car. This car also features a dome, underneath which there is a small bar where you can buy snacks and drinks. On the other side is a small dining area with TV. The tables are also often used to play board games, in winter they screen (train themed) movies and documentaries. Depending on how busy the train gets, there may be two of these Skyline cars, and there may even be a chef selling freshly prepared hot meals to economy class passengers, who don’t have access to the restaurant car.

The highlight of the Canadian is the Park Car at the very end of the train. It includes the most luxurious private rooms (a double bed folds out of the wall), the bullet lounge, a bar (photo via Seat61) and the spectacular glass dome, from where you can look over the train forward. These cars have been in service for exactly 70 years now, but were refurbished multiple times, most recently in 2013. #trainstr

This is the Canadian, it goes between Vancouver and Toronto. The full journey takes over 90h, and I travelled on the Vancouver - Edmonton leg, which is probably the most scenic. It took 32h. I’ll post more pictures soon!
