You won't have any problems with cloning, Clonezilla is easy. Depending on the linux version and the amount of hardware with proprietary drivers you have, you will have more or less problems when booting 🤓
My advice, start from 0 and at the same time clean your system. I like to do it from time to time 🥳

The approach is different here; a response is returned for each file. The server may have specific requirements for a combination (size-type-external condition). All of this cannot be easily captured in a single JSON file for everything.
Additionally, there is BUD-07, which will provide more utility to BUD-06 by adding a payment_request per file in case the file is paid.

Merge of BUD-06 into Blossom 🌸 , which introduces a new endpoint to verify server requirements before initiating an upload, saving time and data for clients. This is also a necessary first step towards the BUD-07 proposal (Paid storage).

Technically yes, it makes you very productive, without a doubt. Especially with silly mistakes that the human eye doesn’t catch. I’ve gone from spending half an hour looking for a single = where a == should be (typical in JavaScript) to literally 10 seconds.

There is a pubkey who has uploaded over 6500 files to nostrcheck.me
Many of these files with adult content, I have reviewed each upload by hand, one by one.
Two days ago this ‘person’ started uploading illegal content involving underage children.
I'm tired, very tired. For me #nostr is a breath of fresh air, but this is beyond me, this is an abuse to all of us, from the victims of the pictures to myself.
#asknostr we have to do something about this. Seriously
P.S: never donated a single satoshi because of the indiscriminate abuse of my server, never.

Now as for NIP98. It would be as easy as authenticating on each server separately no? What you describe is something very necessary to manage authorization events, which avoids reusing an authorization event (intercepted) to authenticate on another server
NIP96 now allows to list files as well, and the spec in its essence allows to upload files to several servers at once. There is an event (kind 10096) to publish the list servers.
I don't really have anything against blossom, but I want to understand it well before I make a decision

Hello @nprofile…elr6 . I am looking at blossom's spec. I have a few questions that I can't make sense of.
1- Why doesn't blossom use NIP98 as an authorization event?
2 - Why does it use its own event with kind 24242 that is not in the standard?
3- Why a whole new protocol if it could have been integrated, for example, in NDK + nostr-tools + NIP96? Does it make sense to go against all the work done these years?
I would like to have a productive conversation, as I am evaluating the possible implementation of blossom for the new version of nostrcheck-server. Starting from NIP96, the modifications to be made in the source code are minimal, apart from the authorization event that does change completely.

There must be many more, using any of the servers available to install on premise (nostr.build void.cat and nostrcheck). But many are private and do not want to be on this list. Hosting files publicly is really intense and dangerous 🥲

Fragmentation is something intrinsic to free software, I have heard this same argument decades ago talking about GNU/Linux.
My opinion is that fundamentally you are right, but less fragmentation means more centralization (in general terms).
#thenostr is not a software, it is a protocol and each interface implements the NIP's it wants, and that's part of the fun.
I think we have a challenge there, I have also tried to introduce family and friends and they just left in a few weeks.

The server uses very few resources, except when processing videos (it uses ffmpeg). In general with 2-4 GB of ram and 50GB of space should be enough for a long time (3-4 years of data). Nostrcheck.me now hosts 40.000 pictures and videos and the data usage is about 9GB.
You can stop the server, but your multimedia files will not be available to others, your notes with images or videos will not be seen (unless you use something like cloudflare, in its free version).

I think one of the most important challenges in nostr is going to be about the servers that host files, and we are not devoting enough attention to it.
Right now there are 5 of us (as far as I know)

I believe that self-custody of files should be encouraged as soon as possible so that anyone can host their own files on their own server (at home for example).
In this way, NIP-96's proposal together with more users installing nostrcheck.me on their home servers is the solution to the centralization of this important part of the protocol.

I want to do an experiment 🤓, the first one who answers this note I will send him/her/ 55555 sats. But he/she must send 55555 minus the amount he/she want to keep for themselves to the one who answers second, so on and so forth, the last one who answers will get the rest.
Example, the second keeps 100 sats for him and send 55400 to the following reply.
