Friend talking about the cost of fast food, since neither of us eat it much anymore.
Back when we were coming up, FF was for the lower middle class. Now it's for the upper middle class. Problem is, the value proposition isn't there. Why would I go to McDonald's when I can get a steak + beverage at my local pub for $19?
I'd be worried if I held stock in McDonald's or their ilk; they're pricing themselves right out of the game, and the profits driving the stock can't last forever.

What happens in a sacristy on daily Mass: culling down options sometimes. One of the deficiencies of the new Mass is the inability to honor two saints as once, unlike the TLM. So decisions must be made mentally, and it always looks like this:

The main question is:
>Do you really believe SSPX is insincere about believing we are in a state of emergency that allows for certain extraordinary measures for the sake of the Church?
If done outside of obedience, then yes, because these issues pertain directly to the authority of the Church at large, an authority they've decided to shrug off.
If July 1st comes and they do what they say they're going to do, it will force the issue, and we are likely to see paperwork and/or declarations from Rome. And it will have come with multiple warnings, all of which will be shrugged off.

(Oh, and this might be helpful: I agree more than disagree with the majority of SSPX's claims. The difference is that I'm still in a place where I can hopefully, in my own small way, move things forward in a positive direction. The FSSP is still in, fighting the good fight. But SSPX? DQ'd themselves on the self-own.)

It depends. There are ways to disagree. There are ways to move in other directions. Formally, though, if the pope demands obedience of an individual or group, including censure and/or excommunication (which was at play at one point for the SSPX, as well as the now-reconciled FSSP branch)... you do what the pope says.
Mentally, I always go back to St. Teresa of Avila: "St. Teresa knew in her heart that the visions were truly from Christ, yet out of obedience she performed the gesture when the Lord next appeared [context: her confessor had told her to make a rude "fig" gesture to the apparition of Christ, the equivalent of flicking Jesus off, because he believed her visions to be from the Evil One.] She did so with great interior distress and while silently apologizing to Jesus. Far from being offended, Christ reassured her and praised her obedience, telling her (in essence) that she had done the right thing by obeying her confessor."
Even though the confessor was wrong.
Or Msgr. Rosetti, just this week, getting ousted as exorcist of the Archdiocese of Washington for speculating openly as to whether "aliens" might in fact be demonic representations. ++McElroy is clearly acting unjustly. But Msgr. Rosetti's response:
“I believe it is of the utmost importance to be obedient to the Church and I will continue to endeavor to subject all that I do and the Center to be thus obedient,” he said in his response.
“I will continue to encourage all to do so as well,” the priest said. Referring to a symbol of unity with the Catholic Church, he added, “As I often say: ‘Stay in the Boat!’, that is, stay in the barque of Peter, it will lead you safely home.”
SSPX is out of the boat. And while I don't wish them ill, it won't surprise me when they drown.

My original comment boils down to this: even if things were fixed -- even if every reform possible were made -- SSPX would still remain on the outskirts, by their own choice.
The alternative -- the productive way to stay in the fight -- is through FSSP. The Fraternity is the remedy to the SSPX: it returned inside, to fight inside. When one removes themselves from ordinary communion as SSPX has, one goes impotent to work for the change that really needs to happen. Now, you're a non-issue on the fringes.
Sticking up to Peter is great. Breaking away from him because you disagree? Not so much.

It works. The question is whether or not people should use it.
Some people have legitimate reasons to use it, namely diabetics who need to lose weight but have a very challenging time with that due to their needs.
For most, though, they just need good 'ole fashioned self-control. I know this personally, as I'm in the process of cutting weight now. Chemical aids should always be a last-ditch remedy, because what people really need are a change in lifestyle.

I've lost 96 pounds since late July. Au naturale, no drugs. I'm swirling a sub-200 weight for the first time in a couple of decades.
I stepped on a scale at the end of July and blinked. It'd been a few years. Sure, my pants were getting bigger, but 298? No. Decided right then and there. Wasn't going to happen.
Diet and exercise. Cardio combined with resistance, with the objective of gaining muscle. Intermittent fasting and calorie counting, followed by a shortening on the fasting, always calorie counting. Everything calories, if not with an app then mentally.
The gains were easy at first. The weight melted off, because I am one stubborn Gaul, and none are as fierce as the Belgae, or so Caesar says.
Plus, I was fat. I had nowhere to go but down.
Anyway, I stalled out at around -70 pounds. That's okay. Stalls happen. But this one stuck around a while. I didn't know how to get 'er out of neutral.
Then I stopped drinking alcohol, and the weight loss picked back up with a vengeance. I'm a social drinker, and a social guy.
Only recently did I read about the metabolic effects of Mr. Booze. I ran through the chemistry today, dusting off ancient knowledge from undergrad I'd intentionally kept buried. I despise chemistry as a field of personal study, and I resent having to do this.
Turns out, though, alcohol isn't just something to calorie count like I was doing previously; it's a substance that works against fat-burning metabolically. I intensely dislike knowing this. You may now dislike me for knowing this, too.
I've gone 45 days without a beer, but feel no real impetus to have one now.
Sometimes, ignorance is preferable.

Unsustainable cost/business model as they continue to circulate capital between themselves, calling it "income" (ala Nvidia/OpenAI swapping funds back and forth) -->
--> Hype. Lots of hype. We've been living this for two years or more now. AI is dangerous. AI will change the world. AI will revolutionize the way you eat your Cheerios -->
--> High IPOs. OpenAI just announced theirs. This is where the big boys get paid. -->
--> Scaling back on the hype, including the quiet shelving of "Data Center" madness. Notice how none of these are actually being completed and opened? Because compute is so expensive and the model is unsustainable, I fully expect OpenAI and Anthropic to shift to legacy corporate customers only, abandoning individual users. There is no way to make it cheap enough for you to use, especially as these models keep scaling up in terms of complexity -->
--> The destruction of the little guys who cannot keep up with big boys, leaving only OpenAI/Anthropic and the smatterings of Big Tech with functional (diversified) business models -->
--> You and I running open local models only. Not a bad thing, as they are getting better, and will do everything you probably need them to.

Not even remotely, because Canada poses zero threat in any tangible form. The mercenary military you speak of -- which doesn't exist -- would be activated in the theoretical war game scenario in which the U.S. military invaded Canada. By Canada's own admission, that invasion would take about a week. Which is pretty entertaining in itself. But then they'd switch to guerrilla warfare model to battle the U.S. military, with these theoretical militias that don't exist, neutralizing the U.S. military occupiers.
All of this is pretty entertaining. The United States is not going to invade Canada. The militias don't exist. Nobody cares, and the reality is that Canada's economy is pegged to the United States, today and tomorrow.
I kind of like this PM, though. He's a mini-Trump. He's out there saying bold things, just to get attention and look big. And even if people know it's all a circus act, all bluster, he's still trying to look tough in the Canada-first kind of way, which is good. Trudeau was a fop, a disaster, your typical Frenchman: all style, no substance. At least this guy looks like he cares about the country, even if he's expressing it in a hilariously ridiculous way.
That he looks like Scrappy Doo wanting to fight a scary monster 100-times his size makes it all that much more entertaining.

I remember back when I was a kid, interested in the creative, the explosive, the avant garde, I lived with a former Art History doctoral candidate, also my former high school English teacher, in his 50's. By the time I made it to college, he let me stay at his place when I visited my girlfriend in that old town. A lifetime ago.
We'd talk about art. He just wanted art that was pretty. Didn't really have to be creative. Just make it nice, pleasant. I wondered at the time where he might have lost that flame for the innovative, for the style that set your hair and on fire and bleached your eyes white. Bob Dylan going electric at Newport. Goya painting his madness. How could you lose your love for that wildness?
Turns out, my friend didn't really lose it. He just got past it as a necessity. Art doesn't have to be clever. It doesn't have to set your hair on fire.
I know that now, being at that exact same point, aesthetically and creatively, 25 years later. Just make it pretty.
