Back from a break , on to watchmaking!

Yeah Rolex and all big brands do roughs cuts in china, but they do finishing in Switzerland. Hand Finishing is hard and time consuming to do well!
IMHO Watches as investment are not the greatest idea, better other assets at the right time (btc). And treat one-self with a watch

Off by a micras. Just enough to throw the gear ratios, just enough to matter.
When you’re chasing haute horlogerie, that’s the line.
So I stopped. Recalculated. Planned it again.

Sharpened my HSS tools by hand today with India and Arkansas stones — no machines, just the feel of steel on stone. 🛠️✨ Tried cutting half of a balance staff. Finish was a beaut, but still oversized. That's cool though, testing the waters! Next up: dialing in some precision on my lathe with G54. 🤓 #WatchmakingJourney #PrecisionCraft

🌀 Sharpened HSS by hand on India & Arkansas stones.
Watched T&T&T to learn real cutting direction.
Cut half a balance staff — clean finish, but oversized.
Next: tighten G54 & gang tool offsets for real precision.

This week I wrestled with Mach4 on my gang-style lathe. Tool 1 sets G54. Tool 2+? Offsets from Tool 1. But Fusion360 doesn't move Y... 😤
So I wrote an M200 macro:
- Z+5mm
- Y=0
- restore Z
Then hacked the post-processor to call M200 after M6. Now tools align perfectly. Learned a lot. Failed a bit. Happy 😄

Just added my tool to the Fusion 360 library and generated G-code for the balance staff 🌀
No idea if it’ll work — it’s ridiculously tiny (0.09 mm) — but still, super exciting to take this step!
Every attempt brings me closer to real precision 👀

Used the Jet-12 drill press to make a gang-style tool holder for my lathe. 4 holes total: 3 threads, 1 CNC-milled with G-code. Works great with small high-precision parts.

Good morning ☀️
Hope you’re all starting the day with diamond hands and curious minds.
🛠️ Quick watchmaking tip:
When working with tiny screws or gears, breathe out before you pick them up.
One breath after… and there goes an hour (or two) spent crawling on the floor looking for that screw! 😅

2025-06-03 10:46:21 UTC

Today I ventured into a new territory: sectioning and grinding HSS bars. I cut them to size and shaped them with a 45° angle — my first attempt at making lathe tools! 🛠️
I then ran some tests on the lathe to see how they performed. Still lots to refine, but it’s incredibly satisfying to start using tools I shaped myself.

The idea? A visual element that completes a full circle every 10 minutes, echoing the rhythm of Bitcoin block time.
Still early—but it’s coming to life inside the movement! ⏱️⚙️
