I'm gobsmacked at how many people took the time here to read and share the obituary of my MIL Marian, a plasma physicist & environmental hero.
She was the 1st female teaching fellow at Harvard's physics dept & earned her PhD there, despite being refused access to the library (misogyny). All the more relevant as UK universities risk closure of physics depts.

My MIL passed away in August. She was about to turn 105 and participated in many of the No Kings events in Mt. Kisco, NY. She was a mathematical physicist, grew up with Einstein as a family friend and is the reason why NY water is clean and frakking is banned. Seeing story after story of US citizens detained and disappeared in #ICE immigration drag nets made me think of dolphin caught in tuna nets. The worldwide condemnation and boycott were a result of the practice being exposed.

when I was looking for my mom, I found so many doctors listed on medicare advantage plans and when I called them they would say they were out of network. And w/ a plan like Avmed in MiamiDade, they would list a hospital as a provider, they'd approve a test, but the drs that performed the tests were out of network which would would only be discovered when bills arrived.

The family is doing everything they can to bring Jasmine home. They are in touch with the Canadian Consulate in San Diego, but there is little they can do. A lawyer is also working on her release, but progress is slow.
Please share this story widely through your networks. Jasmine is an adventurous and hard-working young woman and they desperately want her home.

Her name is Jasmine. She is the daughter of our neighbor's close friends. Yesterday, Austin Grabish, a reporter from ABC 10News was able to interview Jasmine. He also interviewed her friend who has been working tirelessly from Vancouver to bring Jasmine home. The story will air tomorrow, and from there, hopefully other broadcasters will pick it up. #ICE

They are housed together in a single concrete cell with no natural light, fluorescent lights that are never turned off, no mats, no blankets, and limited bathroom facilities.
Communication with her has been extremely sporadic, and it is only thanks to one of her close friends with contacts in the U.S. that we have been able to receive updates. 2/6

#ICE detains #Canadian. 3 March A CAN woman crossing US border - w/ a valid work visa, was denied entry. Rather than send her back over the border in San Ysidro, they detained her. She was transferred to Otay Mesa Detention Center in San Diego. On March 9 the online tracking center said she had been released, 24 hours later there was no word from her. This is 100% wrong coming from the regulators and it’s the same garbage that was put forward in Florida. This could only apply to homes w/ a bidirectional meter and those homes provide the grid with surplus energy for pennies. Access tariffs = a double charge.
