I agree with everything that Matt says in this video, with one slight caveat. The way to get the bitcoin that you want is to vote with your money. That is your power.
If the BTC444 fork starts with just 5% of the mining network, then it can start to get traction. The thing that will make the miners switch, is if the price of the new fork is higher than its relative hash power. For example, if the price of BTC444 is 10% of the old btc price and it has only 5% of the hash, then it is twice as profitable for the miners to mine BTC444 rather than the old one.
Miners are economically incentivesed actors, they will produce what people will pay for.
After the fork everyone will have both versions of bitcoin in their wallet. You can sit tight and play it safe, that way you will certainly end up with the winning bitcoin either way.
Alternatively, you can become an active part of shaping the future of bitcion by selling some of your spam chain bitcion for some clean chain bitcoin. It will be quite cheap at first.
Pay for the bitcoin that want to own and miners will produce what you pay for.
This is how capitalism is supposed to work.
The core devs are attempting a coup, but we have the real power.
If you think about how almost all of the OG bitcoin hodlers really don't like ordinals, then you can probably have a good guess as to who is going to win!
Peter Todd hates bitcoin and he wants to tear it all down.
He made a film in which he pretended to be satoshi.
He persistently proposes that we extend bitcoin beyond the 21m limit.
He is bullying the bitcoin core devs into expanding OP_RETURN. I have been to bitdevs meetings and I've seen it happen.
The only thing that we can do with 100KB that we can't do with 80 bytes is put more non financial data on the blockchain.
The CSAM threat is real. That is what central bankers want, it is what governments want, it is what shitcoin projects want and it is what Peter Todd wants.
They want to see bitcion fall.

55% of miners have now adopted Core v30.
The doors are now open to send transactions to the blockchain that include any form of image or video to miner.
The miners will include it in the blockchain and it will be there forever.
From that point onwards people that run nodes will be at risk of prosecution for hosting and distributing illegal content.
Anyone that doesn't like bitcoin will do this. That could include, shitcoin projects, intelligence agencies, Peter Todd.
It is really not a question of 'if' this will happen, more a question of 'when' will this happen?
Sooner or later, the government of one of the 195 countries in the world, that doesn't like having a competing currency that they can't control, will prosecute someone for running bitcoin a node that contains easily accessible illegal content.
The potential for prosecution with 'plain text' op_return data is on a different level to any ordinals that were stored in the witness data before. Simple tools that exist on the computer of anyone running a node can be used to access and view the material.
People will get scared away from Bitcoin nodes and we will lose decentralisation.
The media backlash against bitcoin will be more severe. Users of Bitcoin will be branded criminals and publicly shamed.

Throughout history, the ability to own and control property has been intimately linked with literacy. In medieval times, when most people couldn't read or write, they were effectively excluded from property ownership - unable to read contracts or verify their rights. They had to rely on others to interpret and validate their property claims, creating a fundamental power imbalance where literacy itself became a tool of control. The spread of literacy democratized property ownership by enabling people to directly understand and engage with their property rights without intermediaries.
Today, we face a similar junction with digital property. Just as traditional literacy enables understanding of written contracts, cryptographic literacy enables true ownership in digital space. Without this new literacy, people remain dependent on platforms and institutions to mediate their digital rights, just as illiterate people once depended on others to interpret their contracts. The path to true digital property rights requires not just technological tools but widespread understanding of how to use them.

If a government wants to shut down free speech, then the most effective way that they can do so is through the money system.
Many media creators receive sponsorship money from advertisers, which means that they can be de-monetised. Governments can put pressure on advertisers that sponsor content creators that say things they don’t like. The advertising companies are susceptible to government pressure as they have a physical locations and they have revenues in fiat money.
A independent creator might be geographically un-locatable, but their sponsors can be located and threatened with legal action, imprisonment or with the cessation of their card processing facilities. There are not many companies, that currently do not depend on the fiat money system in some way for the continuation of their operations.
Creators that depend upon subscription revenue are even more prone to censorship as they can be directly de-monetised through the banking system by the removal their card processing facilities. The international banking system is controlled by the USA and if they feel that the speech of a specific creator is a threat to them, then they can de-monetise and effectively silence that creator.
The fact that almost all creators are currently publishing their content through centralised platforms makes it even easier for authorities to bring an end to the right to free speech of any creator that they choose. We have seen censorship and demonetisation on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. Rumble and Locals are alternative media platforms that are used by a number of creators that have been demonetised by the mainstream platforms, but they still have sponsors and fiat money subscription systems that could be used to shut them down at some point in the future
If a creator is distributing their content through Nostr and are being funded by their listeners using Bitcoin, then they can’t be shut down through government control of the money system. If they are publishing anonymously, then there is no way for the authorities to know who they are or where they are in the world.
FanFares is an open source application and the source code will be stored on decentralised services. If the primary FanFares application is shut down, then anyone can spin up another version of the software and customers can access it from the new ip address. The new ip addresses can be distributed through encrypted messaging services.
An instance of FanFares will take a spit of the payments made to creators from their audience, so anyone that runs a version of fanfares will be able to add their own wallet address to the application and earn a fee split. This is the incentive for multiple instances of FanFares to exist across the world as nodes in a network and therefore the service can never be shut down. Every Nostr relay could run a version of FanFares and this will help them to monetise and cover their storage costs. Any node runner that does not respect the creators of FanFares and tries to cut them out of the fee split, should not have their IP address shared by the community.
If governments want to monitor content published through FanFares, then they will have to pay to do so using Bitcoin.

You can hold it on your own person wherever you go and you hold securely in a way that nobody can see that you have it. Robbers or governments can search your house for gold.
If you hold your bitcoin securely, then they can’t take it.
This facility has never existed before in history. There has never been a form of money that you really own for yourself without relying on a bank or a legal system to protect your ownership.
In the past many people have resorted to storing their gold in a bank vault. The problem with that is the fact that the bank can be robbed by people with guns. Bank alarm systems are much more sophisticated than they have been in the past so they now rarely get robbed. Though some would argue that the bank robbers have become more sophisticated. They have in fact taken over the government and they are slowly and quietly robbing us of our savings in way most people cannot see.
Bitcoin doesn't require a third party to store it securely.
Bitcoin doesn't require armed guards to securely transfer it to someone else.

Trying to do a hard fork of Bitcoin is conceptually like copying all the data from Wikipedia (it's not that much) and hosting it on your own website, but then getting very little web traffic because you don't have the millions of backlinks that point to the real Wikipedia or the volunteer army of people that a constantly update the real Wikipedia. Your split version of Wikipedia would be inherently worse than the real one from the moment you copy it.

I feel like the BTC price is about to take a bath!
I know that I am not going to be popular for saying this on Nostr, but please hear me out.
My reasoning is that there is too much expectation built into the price right now.
1. Every man and his dog, thinks that we are going to have an upwards price spurt in the 6 months post halving. Everyone that would be buying over the next few months to make that happen has already bought.
2. New people into the market don't self custody. Back in 2013, the people that discovered Bitcoin were the type of people that would study and learn how to self custody. We are beyond the inner circle now and most new adopters are going to see the ETF as the best way to hold Bitcoin.
3. The supply change as a result of the halving is not that big anymore. Relative to the total amount of bitcoin already mined, the impact on supply of a halving is reduced.
4. There is an unknown amount of new supply of Bitcoin IOUs. Anyone that buys bitcoin and keeps it with a custodian is getting a bitcoin IOU. Funds held on exchanges, within ETFs or in custodial wallets are all basically just IOUs. There is no limit to the number of these that can be created. Re-hypothication is real, it has been going on in the gold market for decades.
5. In past cycles interest rate cuts have been positive move for Bitcoin. The fed has clearly signaled that interest rate cuts are coming and the bitcoin price just isn't responding to it.
6. The fact that so many people expect the price to go up means that there it likely to be a lot of leverage in the system. When the expected price spurt does not arrive, some of that leverage will get unwound. For some people this will be by choice, for others it will be a liquidity event.
7. The mining network is now less profitable than it was at the bottom of 2022. The hash rate has gone up by more than the bitcoin price since then and we have had a halving. The ordinals boom has been and gone and they are no longer paying the miners for assets that have no intrinsic value. The miners are going to have to consolidate if the price does not go up some time soon. They are sitting on a lot of bitcoin that they have mined and chosen not to sell. They are, by their very nature, leveraged players in this industry and when they chose to keep their working capital in bitcoin, they are increasing their leverage. Their costs are in fiat and revenues are in bitcoin. A squeeze is not going to pretty for them and it will feed upon itself as they are forced to sell.
I hate to say it, but I think that it is different this time. The 4 year cycle is over.
The good news is, that this could be a new era of relative price stability for bitcoin. If that is the case, then it could smooth the path to adoption as a currency, as price volatility is a major barrier for many people.
Bitcoin acting as a currency is the real route to price increases in the long run. Let's keep building.

The Bitcoin etf gives institutions the ability to short the bitcion price.
Every time a unit of the etf is shorted, a new unit is created that is available for sale.
An etf it's a derivative and institutions can create as many of them as they like, without necessarily increasing the issuance of the etf itself.
This is why net outflows from the etfs have been occurring since March 13th.
Fake supply can be created at the brokerage level. Nobody really owns the shares that they think they have in their brokerage account. The shares are owned by a nominee company. The customers have a derivative contract with the brokerage for the difference in price in Fiat money. The contract itself, f is in fact a debt obligation.
The contract is treated as colateral because the price moves in line with the equity that it pretends to be.
Does anyone remember collateralised debt obligations from 2008? That is what you are getting if you buy the bitcion etf.

If you leave you bitcoin on an exchange, then it can be lent to someone that will sell it in the market in the hope that the price will go down.
Self custody bitcoin is the only real bitcoin.

Before life on earth there was a lot of carbon in the atmosphere.
As life evolved over many millions of years, some of the carbon was slowly taken out of the atmosphere and put it into the ground.
If this process were allowed to continue without correction, then life would eventually die out because there would not be enough carbon in the atmosphere to sustain life.
It is fortunate that a form of life would eventually evolve, that would dig up some of the carbon from the ground and put it back into the atmosphere.

In the UK election, many people are voting Labour by cause they don't want sunak or the tories. They currently see reform UK as a wasted vote.
Reform are likely to flip the tories in the next month or so. When they do, many ordinary working British people will sit up and take notice. They will see that reform represent their views far more effectively than either of the other two parties. The effect will be a landslide, as a large part of the Labour vote switches to reform. At the same time, many of the tories will switch too out of fear of losing their seats.
Key reform policies:
End gender ideology in schools
Less inward migration
End climate alarmism and investment in wasteful projects that is making energy bills higher.
