Altcoins have been around since 2013. I played with quite a few that year. When Ethereum launched, I was an insider in the right place at the right time, who could be sitting on $Billion$ right now if I didn't have my "high & mighty" bitcoin maximalist attitude. I'm not sorry.
That attitude exists, in all of the old school bitcoiners, to do exactly one thing: To protect bitcoin's censorship resistance. Something no altcoin or stablecoin will ever have. It served us very, very well during the blocksize war.
Just because you don't value censorship resistance (which is, let's face it, the only thing that keeps governments from stopping a competitor) doesn't mean bitcoiners don't. We're still laser focused on that task.
Calling bitcoin's utility "Speculative" makes you look like a state-loving bootlicker.

All of the communities at http://FBCE.io use lightning. It works great for these people, as well as every schoolkid in El Salvador who learns it in their classrooms. It works great for Steak & Shake, where I can walk in and buy anything on their menu in seconds. Why don't you go test that one out for yourself if you don't believe it.
I don't know what your problem is with lightning but to claim that Drivechains would have been better makes you sound like you have no clue what bitcoin devs had to do to scale BTC while keeping it sovereign.

That explains a lot. Every day of 2017 was a day of bitcoiners suffering psychological attacks on every level from the mainstream media to our own "trusted" companies like Coinbase & BitGo. They took over forums like bitcointalk and r/btc. These guys were all so pernicious it felt like a real war at times, because they could just not act in good faith. That kind of focused energy against you takes a toll.
All of that split off into bitcoin cash and we were so happy for them to fork away into their own insignificant coin... Until, of course, they started declaring that Lightning is dead to everyone who would listen. And that trend has lasted several years now, typically as a tactic to swell BCH's ranks.

I know the argument but I disagree. Unless someone invented a way to made On-chain payments scale without the centralizing tradeoffs, Bitcoin had no other way to make it to visa-level TX activity. Now we've surpassed that, and as a lightning node runner it's given me an income, too.
I know it took some time to get here but lightning is great now. Not quite perfect, but millions use it every day around the world and it's now proven tech.

In case you weren't aware, these Bitcoin Cash fans have made their own Nostr client that strips out Lightning and puts BCH payments in its' place. And somehow, miraculously, they've gotten tons of users on here where I have to look at their posts every day. Half of the Philippines among them.
Many of the posts I see are filipinos introducing themselves as new to the BCH community and some even ask what BCH is in the first place... So I can only assume that the BCHNostr devs have a hell of a marketing team that gets normies in here without even knowing what BCH is.
Wouldn't be the first time BCHers have pulled that shit.
But the incredulous part is that BCH users are THE group of people that have been loudly declaring that Lightning doesn't work since the beginning. HOW FUCKING DARE they come in here and strip out a perfectly working lightning system to replace it with their own token?
That's just plain malicious... And it totally admits that lightning works at the same time. Malicious two-facedness.
So what's the play for bitcoiners who love Nostr? I agree with a lot of this but I don't see AGI as any real type of awareness. An AI will never "Decide" to do something, it'll just be parsing bullshit smarter and smarter until it looks like it's doing that more often. If we never instruct it to protect it's servers it's never going to have that fear that the servers are in trouble and it should therefore protect them itself.

I get your point about the pain it will cause us because our economy will be flooded with USD that isn't used elsewhere. I was aware of and worrying about that point back when Satoshi Nakamoto wasn't anyone's nym yet.
Bitcoin SOLVED that problem, completely, the only way it can be solved, and it works for every last human on earth as long as they choose to opt in.

There really isn't any way that we can know what's in their reserves if they don't want us to... But I take comfort in the fact that the treasury company aggregate figure is something we can use to force transparency on them when the time comes.
The moment all public coins reaches 21m & 1 sat, we can hold that number up to the biggest funds and call them liars to their face, forcing them to prove themselves. Those who don't go transparent, like I expect Conbase won't, will provide us a strong reason to universally shun.

I have no doubt that when prompted, an AI agent can and will recognize BTC as the best asset for it to hold and interact with. The problem is that agents work for people. They aren't sentient, no matter how scary Moltbook looks.
So yes, they'll hodl for you. But it's still your sats in the bot's wallet. There is no addition of sats into this system because no nocoiners are ever going to instruct their agents to go find some money and do things with it. So they won't.

Has anyone tackled the problem of how to get bitchat dispersed in places it is most needed, especially around protests in scary regimes? (Iran & Venezuela comes to mind.)

A big difference is that retail fools always popped their bubbles with leverage. They'd lever themselves up so far that they couldn't afford a 10% draw-down without losing everything. Bitcoin treasuries are not that. They just are now getting their boardrooms to all start to vote in favor of holding BTC instead of bonds and I don't see at what point they're going to start adding leverage to that.
