I'm taking a stand with respect to my digital self sovereignty.
All my household device purchases moving forward will be running Graphene and Linux; if it requires an email address or centralized account to install apps or do basic functions, it won't be part of my stack.
Putting this stake in the ground now, and although its going to be a tough transition period in the long run it will set me and my family up for a better future where we have control over our own devices.

I’d suggest you start with an inexpensive Chinese made UHF radio such as a Baofang, they cover a wide spectrum of frequencies, you can listen to NOAA, and I believe even cover marine bands. Be aware some frequencies require a license to transmit on, but here in America we can transmit on those frequencies without a license if it’s an emergency. Local laws will vary though, so connect with a local HAM operator and pick their brain.

It local governments take the internet offline, like we have seen in many countries over the past few years using satellite internet connectivity is the best option IMO. IP over radio provides a way for two parties to transmit encrypted data back and forth for some level of privacy, but puts the risk of either transmitting party being triangulated.
Satellites unfortunately are owned by big tech who can censor and shut down connections whenever they want, but while they are working they likely are less prone to local detection if signals are funneled only up. Some reflections might happen in the ionosphere, but tracking that back to a ground location is much harder than a normal radio would be.
I think people should start with getting a basic radio and learning how to talk to people in their inner group of trust; the people you would want to communicate with in the event of a war/disaster/tyranny out of that you can build up your understanding and capabilities.

Military equipment does not exempt one from the laws of physics. You can use directional antennas and remote location repeaters, maybe satellite comms, but at the end of the day you are putting electromagnetic energy into the environment that will travel, bounce off objects, and eventually dissipate.
If the internet goes down from a global thermonuclear war, it’s done and over; maybe pockets of small networks would retain intranets, or local networks, but unlikely that Bitcoin is worth anything in that situation because electricity would be extremely rare, let alone computers.
If society as we know it ends from a nuclear war the most valuable currency is going to be food, medicine, and other hard goods that support survival. I’m talking all the basics at your local supermarket that are taken for granted because they arrive without thought by global supply chain.

Most people never check their ego and a walking around making poor decisions unaware of what their ego is. “Killing your ego” to me means humbling myself regularly; obviously I love and value myself but ego is not you, ego is what you think you are at an almost subconscious level.
I cut off all my hair every once in a while, and when I look in the mirror I see myself and I realize that it’s not my looks or a nice hairstyle that defines who I am. I intentionally avoid brand name or flashy clothes, cars, electronics, jewelry, anything that could be interpreted as a status symbol.
People are walking around with main character syndrome, desperately trying to conform to what they think makes them high value in society; they become prisoners to their own habits and I see it destroying lives.
Narcissism and Sociopathic behaviors IMO are born directly out of distorted perceptions where egos run wild.
Kill your ego, and build back a more pure version; don’t sleep on it though because it’s a lifelong battle.

I would guess it’s to prevent messages from being missed or lost by a receiver out of range or switched off. I haven’t thought deeply about it but I don’t see much reason to be sending transactions of value over a system like this; if the internet is down the state of life is likely nothing like what we have now and for OPSEC I don’t think even transmitting a high power radio signal is a good idea as it makes your location known to any party with the right equipment.

This example doesn’t use any central server, and there is no need to use lightning. It’s purely a computer connected to a radio and transmits over the air and is received by another setup. If the receiver is turned off the messages are not received and can’t be retrieved.

I love that you’re there, but as you said you’re working with a decade of experience and most people will never whiff 5% of what you know how to do. I want a graphene or calyx device to tinker with as well because I love the ability to do cool off the wall shit.
For a daily, I likely wouldn’t run graphene or calyx as there are big usability trade offs. I love Linux myself and I run it when I can, but that doesn’t mean it can replace Windows as much as I loathe MS and their insidious telemetry some software just isn’t available for Linux that many need to run their business etc.
One thing we can agree is anything that takes the power away from mega cap tech and puts it in users hands is better; my hope isn’t a pissing match between brands of phone but a design philosophy that empowers all users such as web-apps.
It shouldn’t matter if you are on an android, iOS, Linux or windows desktop, we should all be able to have the same experience and Zap and note to our hearts content without any single company dictating what we can and can’t do. So in my opinion android isn’t the solution, neither is iOS, so dancing on one another isn’t productive hence my initial reply to #[2] post.

The reality is for most users iOS is superior from a privacy and data collection standpoint. Conflating YOUR ability to gain root access with the business model of the parent company is comical.
I run an iOS device and if I chose to run an android it would need to be stock android as my day job necessitates I be on a standard issue off the shelf device. Stock android is insanely invasive and with googles business model being based on harvesting user data it’s not a company I elect to use.
For the record I was an android user for years and I used to hate iPhones before I started using one and then I realized it’s actually a superior experience most of the time. Tech bro super geeks will be like “but bro i can run custom ROMS” cool bro do it; it’s not like you are auditing the code or really diving deep into who made that ROM, they are just putting their trust in another 3rd party they see as trustworthy. Whether that turns out to be the right decision or not time will tell.

If you haven’t done it start slow. Begin by reducing sugar as it impacts hunger and makes people ravenous during withdrawal.
You can begin the process by doing intermittent fasting, move dinner earlier or have breakfast later. Shift your meal times an hour or so a day until you can do a 20/4 split. Eat clean when you re-feed.
Once you have conquered your ghrelin Dip your toes into full day water fasts, when you do be sure to drink lots of water and if you feel queasy add electrolytes to the water (no sugars) try doing a day a week and then try 2 days in a row followed by a week or so of normal eating or IF. The longest I’ve done is 72 hours and it’s an empowering experience.
Listen to your body, drink water when you’re thirsty and don’t force water on yourself if you’re feeling full; and watch out for any signs of heart palpitations or other adverse reactions.
Obviously if you have underlying health conditions or you need to take medication you’ll need medical guidance before doing a multi day fast.

There are a lot of ridiculous health trends these days with people giving out advice like “sun maxing” or “eat only meat” here are a few basic habits I practice that should get you going in the right direction.
MENTAL
-Become aware of your ego, then kill it
-Practice emotional intelligence
-Focus on the being present in the moment
-Think about who and what’s important to you
-Invest your time and energy in the people who matter
FOOD
-Drink lots of clean water; no plastic bottles
-Eat only unprocessed foods
-Read labels, don’t eat anything with added sugar or preservatives
-Avoid non-organically grown fruits and veggies
-Use only grass fed or free range meat
-Don’t cook with or consume seed oils
-Track your macros every now and then
-Water fast a few days a month
SLEEP
-Try to get 8 hours of sleep
-Practice good sleep hygiene
EXERCISE
-Get in some zone 2 cardio at least 3-4 times a week
-Lift weights or challenge your muscles
-Don’t get injured
AVOID
-Drinking alcohol
-Smoking anything; use oral or topical path if you must
-Phthalates
-PFAS
-Using chemicals in general, most are untested as to their impacts on health
-Excessive sun exposure; choose protective clothing over sunscreen
I hope these tips I’ve learned on my journey help someone. Everyone is different so what works for me might not work for you. Whatever methodology you subscribe to always remember it could be wrong, so stay humble and keep an open mind, but not so open that your brains fall out.
