People in the future will marvel that in the early years of bitcoin that we allowed 5 people to just decide what bitcoin is. And half of them didn't know the difference between a man and a woman.
People will look back on this time as one of the most morally depraved, inhumane and dangerous times in history.
They will look back on us like we lived in the dark ages.
We are cavemen who discovered lightning.
Meaning, besides the incredible advancements in technology, we are so early in the evolution of human governance and morality that what we tolerate today will become unheard of in the future.
I believe technology can actually play a huge role in this.
Either we adopt a sound money or governments will inflate away all the productivity and prosperity that would be achieved through AI and robotics.
Either we treat each other decently and leave each other alone or there will be endless wars.
Either we shrink governments or they will inevitably lead to tyrant after tyrant.
As the world goes so does bitcoin, or maybe vice versa.
Just maybe.
The solution is simple. Opt out. Buy what you need from friends and family with bitcoin and accept it as payment for your products/services.
Save your data on your own computer.
Shop locally.
Go to church.
Get married and start a family.
And have fun.
I think we would be ok if we all just did that and didn't worry about much else.

Anyone who claims fees are the only filter that works please tell me how this is wrong.
"Why not let the fee market manage data storage?
The fee market is designed to prioritize transactions based on economic urgency.
However, the market for data storage on the blockchain is a completely different market from the market for payments, with completely different incentives.
Specifically, the fee for a monetary transaction incentivizes a miner to include the transaction in a block, representing a one-time transfer of monetary value, i.e., a payment. The miner thus provides the one-time service of securing a payment, for a one-time fee.
Once the payment is secured, the payor does not receive any additional benefit from the Bitcoin network, besides the integrity of Bitcoin's transaction history (a service to which all node operators are happy to contribute, because Bitcoin would not function as money otherwise).
Conversely, the fee for a data storage transaction still goes only to the miner who includes the data in a block, but the burden of storing the data falls on all node operators, who never received even a part of the fee, yet are forced to continue downloading, storing, and serving the data forever.
In this case, the miner accepts a one-time fee, and in exchange, the priceless service of highly-available, uncensorable data storage is provided in perpetuity for free by node operators.

You are right about one thing. Bitcoin is what we make it.
What you are missing is that this is not only a technical discussion. Filling up nodes with garbage creates a disincentive to run a node.
What incentive do I have to relay and mine transactions full of garbage.
We signed up for money not jpegs. And defending my private property is not censorship, deal with it.

I will never have this problem because I am not imposing a bunch of garbage on my peers. I respect their private property and will use as little of their resources as humanly possible. This big beautiful consolidation transaction has been in my mempool for the last six blocks and was actually rejected by Foundry USA 3 times, viaBTC, and Binance in favor of a bunch of garbage spam. This is where core 30 is taking us. Core nodes now favor bloating the utxo set over shrinking it.
My knotty node has been trying to mine this transaction the entire time but it was displaced by spam that core 30 is optimized for. Why is core software rejecting valid transactions that are actually beneficial to the blockchain in favor of flooding the blockchain with bullshit dust transactions.
This transaction was eventually mined by F2Pool and turned 1000 utxos into 1. Why are we optimizing bitcoin to be free data storage service for miscreants instead of prioritizing transactions that clean up that junk. I'm sure this is just some scammer preparing another mint of dick butts on the chain but it still begs the question. Why is it easier to spam the chain than clean it up. Seems like the incentives are perverse.

No. Setting my own mempool policy is not censorship at all.
Don't know about you, but I have the freedom of speech. I'm allowed to say whatever I want. Censorship is preventing people from speaking.
Isn't it more like tyranny when the dominant implementation makes changes that will force you to do something against your will. In fact this is the type of thing bitcoiners should be fighting against. A single organization dictating what my mempool should look like.

I can confirm! Ghee is amazing!
We used to have a dairy in my community and I milked the cows a few days a week. Sometimes there was more milk than we know what to do with so we would make yoghurt or ice cream and one time we made ghee. It was so much work but tasted like heaven. It didn’t last us nearly as long as I had hoped, we put it on everything.

You're free to transact how you want.
Nodes are free to relay what they want.
Nodes are free to run whatever software they want.
Miners are free to mine what they want.
You are free run a node and mine if you want.
That's why knots is not censoring transactions.
That's why bitcoin is censorship resistant.
You CAN NOT force anyone else to relay or mine something they don't want to.
Knots simply has stricter default mempool policy which users like.
Anyone making claims that knots = censorship either doesn't understand bitcoin and should be ignored or are lying to you and should be ignored.

Total bull. Here's what actually happened.
Filters work just fine. Claiming that fee are the only filter ignores all of bitcoins history.
2023 a few new methods of spam were discovered.
Luke made a pr to filter that crap and core just refused to adopt them. This is the dramatic shift in the development process.
It's not that filters became less effective, it's that for some reason bitcoin core just decided to stop using them. This is why the name calling and the claims of shitcoining, because there is no other logical conclusion for why all of the sudden we were just going to let literal attacks go unchallenged. That is not hyperbole, these spammers has said publicly that their goal is to ruin bitcoin and make it unusable.
There is no reason to force monetary use cases to compete with spam in the fee market. This completely distorts the incentive structure. Spammers stand to make money from their transactions where a monetary transaction only looses money to fees. This premise that you should be willing to pay more than spam for block space or you don't really care about bitcoin is false.
The use cases and therefore incentives are completely incompatible. A monetary network wants fees to be as low as possible, that's one of the reasons we invented lightning. Spammers are willing pay extraordinary fees because they are selling satoshis for more than they are worth. Spammer get paid to make transactions! How can some mom and pop shop or normal user compete with that?
Now fast forward to today, people like Calle are parading around pretending that filters just stopped working when in reality we just stopped using them.
When used filters work incredibly well. The cat and mouse game is absolutely worth playing because the ones using the protocol for its intended purpose have the advantage. Notice there are not a million new ways of spamming bitcoin, there are just a couple that can be easily filtered. You do not have to update every day, that is a wildly ridiculous claim. In the real world developing these schemes to sneak data into bitcoin take time to develop but only minutes to filter. Luke demonstrated this at btc++.
When scammy projects see that they will spend tons of resources to develop their product only to get filtered out, they will just stop trying. If for some reason they can just keep burning money spamming bitcoin and creating new protocols to do so, they are probably just connected to the money printer.
This is not 'the price of decentralization', it is an obvious attack and cores lack of action while the utxo set tripped and the block chain was flooded with jpegs should raise major red flags.
If it wasn't clear let me reiterate. YES, knots filters most spam already. The reason it doesn't do much is because 98% of the network, until recently, refused to do anything about it. Since 2023, when the majority of this nonsense started, there has been a decisive change in the priorities of the project.
This shift in attitude is the big change that we should all be extremely concerned about. The change to op return and standard fees are just going to make it easier to spam the chain and are a direct result of this change in attitude. If we allow this they just move on to the next filter they want to rip out and bitcoin will slowly turn into ethereum.

Shitcoin Magazine propagandists are out in full force. I could not believe my ears. The attitude towards bitcoin displayed in this video is exactly what makes monetary maximalists want to ossify. This was at a conference that took place a few weeks ago.
He asks if can bitcoin succeed without another fork. These guys are going around Asia, where a ton of the mining happens, saying we need to fork bitcoin and we need to do it now before it's too late and bitcoin ossifies. I'm paraphrasing but that is not much of an exaggeration. These are all the same people that support core v30 and are pretending that Luke is the one who wants to fork.
Remember all those times when @nprofile…d7ya was right, when everyone said he was wrong, and he saved bitcoin. This battle over op return could be another one of those times.
This guy spent 15 minutes essentially advocating for accommodating layer two capabilities on bitcoin by way of a soft fork. They want to add things like CTV and OP_CAT, OP_THIS and OP_THAT all for the sake of 'building better layer two applications'. He even makes wildly unfounded claims that users will move away from custodial solutions and centralized exchanges in favor of the L2 apps they want to build. That all sounds fine and dandy until you realize that he refused to even mention the lightning network more than a single time and only to say about it that 'we haven't seen acceleration in that regard'.
Why is it that all the people that want to change bitcoin so badly refuse to talk about, or work on, the lightning network. Has lightning failed? Should we just get rid of segwit and taproot since they were such flops? Or will there never be an end to the changes you want to make to bitcoin until the code becomes so convoluted and complex that we just become ethereum 2.0?
What you guys don't seem to understand is that not long ago we did fork just to make lightning possible which makes bitcoin incredibly easy to use. Just use that.
Your fancy L2 is not going to magically increase adoption. It''s going to be changes to the law and tax code that will bring mass adoption. Have you ever tried to buy something in your local community from someone who has never even heard of bitcoin? It's not easy.
I think Luke, @nprofile…fkft , and bitcoin knots is absolutely on the right side of history here because they are the ones advocating that WE SHOULD NOT CHANGE BITCOIN with so little agreement in the community. That is the ultimate irony of this war, the ones that cant wait to be done talking about op return so that they can move on to the next fork as soon as possible are also the ones that have been telling knots users to fork off the whole time and now are writing hit pieces attacking Luke trying to say he wants to fork bitcoin. You can't make this up.
I know this is a very convoluted and messy battle but your default behaviour when you are not sure what is going on should be to just sit on your hands. DON'T DO ANYTHING. Whatever you do, DON'T UPDATE TO CORE V30. If you want send the message that bitcoinres think its bad to have spam on a monetary network and something should be done about it instead of making it easier to do then run knots.
I don't know what more to say. How can you possibly trust core anymore.
Core has been deprecated just like they did to op_return. It is a centralized privately funded organization that has proven to be untrustworthy. Bitcoiners should abandon them immediately or at a bare minimum just don't upgrade.

If you can do sets of weighted pull ups then you already have the strength but maybe need to work on technique. High pull ups are the first step. Make that bar touch your nipples then keep going!

1) The Holy Bible. I cant say I've read it cover to cover but I'm almost there and probably worth doing at least once in your life.
2) Autobiography of a Yogi - Paramhansa Yogananda.
I had a more spiritual focus for most of my life and very little economic focus but now that I am reading a little more in that genre I am pleasantly surprised to find some universal truths apply in all aspects of life.

I was there, sitting very close to where this picture was taken from.
I walked out on him and all the suitcoiner bullshit. This is not what bitcoin was made for and the sooner people stop listening to these people the better off bitcoin will be.
Don't get complacent.
Don't go into debt to buy bitcon.
Bitcoin can still easily fail.
We are the only reason this thing works and if you are not doing your part you are contributing to its potential failure.
Run a node. Use bitcoin peer to peer. Stay humble and stack sats.

I just got back from BTC Prague last night and I'm headed back to the fiat mines first thing this morning.
The best part of the conference was just getting to meet so many bitcoiners. You could sit down next to any one and have a great conversation like my new friends Johannes and David from @nprofile…w9dz, or Nick from Bulgaria(if anyone knows cybersecurity Nick please let me know), or @nprofile…kg5d and many big names as well.
What I really got out of this trip was hope. Seeing so many people who sincerely want to make the world a better place and are doing something about it was so inspiring to see.
It made me realize we are already changing the world just by being a who we are and sharing that with others. Each one of us is a bitcoin node, whether you run a node or not, and we broadcast our signal to our individual social networks just by having a conversation, supporting cool businesses, and sharing bitcoin with the world. One day, when enough of us are broadcasting uplifting bitcoin signals we will change the world and there is nothing that can stop it.
