Personally, I don’t think Nostr is the appropriate domain to discuss code. Especially in the communal way which would be appropriate here.
Unless I am ignorant, nostr articles can’t be edited.
It would be difficult for people to to submit alternate code changes without writing a different article disconnected from yours, or asking you to change yours. Let alone test code, etc.
It GitHub, all is organized. Plus, it would be necessary to use to merge to the actual protocol regardless.
GitHub is designed for open source code collaboration.

I have read this.
My first recommendation is draft this as a soft fork rather than hard fork.
While I appreciate your argument of blind forks, I feel those arguments should be distinct from this proposal. Furthermore, writing and framing this as a soft forks will be important in having this reach consensus.
At the technical level, the same intention should be held. Simply restrict rules to enforce bit price conservation. I wouldn’t remove code that would require a hard fork.

We wouldn't even need to remove witness data to resolve much of this issue right? As long as we removed the sats subsidy on witness data, the free market would begin to price data fairly. That way, we could keep functionality for lighting while maintaining conservation. Agree or disagree?

Ha, what an enjoyable conversation!
I look forward to reading more of your work as it flows out.
Given my more physiologic background, I can’t help but think of consciousness as stemming from the interplay of biological systems maintaining balance in this flow.
That being said, I enjoy your framing. It has me thinking of the ancient adherence to the idea that there is something important about paying attention to the eternal now, rather than succumbing to the monkey mind that goes back into memory or projects forward.
I think there is little distinction between the internal observer and the external consciousness. It seems evident to me that the more our attention is solely focused on the eternal now, there is an experienced unity with the holy consciousness. We feel one with it all, and less attached to our felt individuality. It is when the intellectual mind takes the wheel, the same one that likes to go back into memory or project forward, when the felt experience of an individualized internal observer becomes more predominant.
We are all vessels of light, radiating from the same glowing ball, and it is only because there are holes poked throughout the shroud that wraps around it, that we feel as if we are distinct rays of light, rather than one holy ball of light that is going through this process.

Much of my work centers around the nature of the mind. Humans, like all life, act as dissipative structures, and our behaviors are oriented toward facilitating the flow of energy within this cosmic order. But there is a fundamental dilemma at the core of the nature of our mind. On the one hand, we have the intellectual mind, which uses symbols and logic to utilize informational structures so that we can build the civilization we see around us. At the same time, physiologically speaking, I believe the intellectual mind acts as a kind of fog over our bodies, preventing us from properly experiencing the feeling of being aligned with that flow. It is when we calm the mind and otherwise act in alignment with nature that we can more vividly and truly realize our place in that cosmic flow: that which provides us meaning.
So it is interesting to think about what you're saying. What you call short-term memory is what we experience as the matter and energy of our waking moment (which I may argue is better experienced when we learn to remove the fog of the mind), and that collapses into long-term memory, which, in a sense, lies beyond us. While beyond us, we are always trying to come into contact with it, as it helps in our pursuit of alignment and felt sense of purpose.
Bitcoin, then, is us encoding that memory on that more eternal level, but in a way that is still more intelligible to our intellectual side. I have long believed that the computer is here to solve this ancient dilemma we have between the intellectual mind and the experiences we consider more holy and aligned with the cosmic order. Perhaps this is what Bitcoin fundamentally solves: it resolves the dilemma by capturing information that is helpful for our intellectual mind and encoding it into the eternal memory through energy, which is more aligned with the grander cosmic flow. In a way, bringing the two into one: giving us an even more powerful tool for self discovery and alignment with the flow.

The wonderful thing you pointed out in your paper is that Bitcoin acts as a means for us to understand time in a way we weren’t able to before.
It is, in my opinion, also a means for understanding ourselves.
I agree with you that this was a necessary action of ours, only so we could learn from it and understand ourselves and Bitcoin better.

I couldn’t agree more. Something I am trying to push recently is that it’s not enough to simply HODL your Bitcoin.
Bitcoin should be spent. It helps the blood flow of the network. The more the blood flows, the healthier it is.
One day, the block subsidy disappears. At that time, Bitcoin is either spent, or it is no longer mined, and dies.
No blood flow, no life.

I appreciate the civil discourse. However, I do interpret there to be several bad assumptions here.
Furthermore, I’d prefer to highlight a greater point. I find it odd that so many in our space are trying to argue that it’s possible for a small minority to change the rules of Bitcoin.
Regardless of the validity (or lack thereof of BIP110) , I think we should all be more vigilant.
Given the centralization of mining pools, if BIP110 succeeds, it would set a very bad precedent.

I do apologize, but now I am not following your line of reasoning.
Nodes are not Sybil resistant. Furthermore, 20% of nodes running BIP-110 does not influence hashrate.
Even if many people run a BIP-110 node, this does not mean the longest chain will become a BIP-110 chain. It will only result in many people running nodes that have frozen and stop seeing new blocks.

This is in reference to the mandatory signaling period where BIP-110 nodes reject all non signaling blocks starting at the difficulty epoch before September 1st correct?
As far as I understand, as long as the majority of hashrate doesn’t move to this BIP-110 chain, this will simply result in those nodes not following the longest chain.

The project of Ocean is worthy of our respect, their attempts to push BIP-110 aside.
What is ironic is that BIP-110 will likely fail, and one major reason is that it requires 55% of miner consensus and this essentially means that it all depends on the actions of Antpool and Foundry.
Regardless of the validity ( or lack thereof) of this BIP, the fact that the final decision is really in the hands of two entities is an issue we all should be concerned about. Ocean is working to fix this and that is a good thing for Bitcoin.
Also, Ocean miners running DATUM can choose whether they signal for BIP-110 or not. So your comment here is a little unfair.
We should be spending our bitcoin and decentralizing mining nodes. This is how we actually fix the issues being discussed.

I agree with that. Maybe it’s related to what I was talking about in Vegas, perhaps there is a cultural problem in bitcoin.
Maybe Saylor is a product of this Bitcoin class he entered in. When the major battle cry of the community was “hodl”. Rather than “run nodes”, “decentralize mining pool”, “spend sats in your community”, or what have you.
The community cheered him on at first. Maybe the community is partially to blame for having cultural mottos that were half-truths.

All of them manually opted in. One vendor was using Zeus before square made it easier.
Another I convinced to turn on the week prior, knew very little of bitcoin before that, until I explained to him why I live on Bitcoin.
It’s my understanding that the default option is only available to vendors who have that tablet with a customer facing screen that shows a Cash App QR code. But the QR code is a secret lightning invoice too. But they would have had to update their firmware.

Tools like this are vital to the health of this network.

Seems to me there are more and more conversations in Bitcoin that propose a violation of such rights.
