Absolutely, that is such a given in my mind, and includes such an extensive list of different types that I didn't even think to list it. There's an infrastructure for just about any aspect of society you can think of. I know many here are focused on cyber & comms. But of course its transportation, health, energy, food, water, I mean you name it.

I also this morning listened to a podcast from Deep State Radio called "Need to Know" which is focused on national security and a significant point of discussion was one that I've been making for years, always with a sense of great frustration -- that is, national security certainly does *include* the military but should be as much focused on citizens as it is on repelling military threats. National security should mean heavily investing in each person's health and education and those should be free because the tax structure enables it. No one should starve or be homeless in a secure nation. Every person should be able to access whatever level of education or trade training they desire for a rewarding life of purpose. Every person should have no middleman siphoning off cash, standing between them and their healthcare system. Finished #scifi #audiobook Slow Gods by Claire North. First time with this author but I'll definitely be checking out more. This story had the kind of world building I really like, with many different planets and cultures including technological beings and intelligent ships. Our protagonist comes from a brutal, hypercapitalist culture and due to an accident where he is enslaved to work off debts incurred by being alive, he ends up near death. To get the last inch of work out of his body they hook his brain up to a ship which will use him as a pilot to navigate arcspace. On the flight he is mysteriously changed, brought back as an apparently immortal and not quite normal being. He becomes a renowned pilot with the minor problem that if he's in the dark a new part of him can take over and tends to slaughter people nearby. On his travels he helps people, finds love and friendship of sorts, and tries to figure out the meaning of life. Very good. Excellent narrator I recognize from some Iain M. Banks audiobooks. I guess we're at war with Iran now. The Trump criminal gang tried to come up with reasons for it but they were flailing. But I will tell you why he's ONCE AGAIN using the military to create a violent spectacle. Because a dementia-riddled, sadistic child rapist is desperately using enormous amounts of violence to distract himself from the fact that everyone in the world knows he's a child rapist. That's it.
But the fundamental reason why is because our neighbors, coworkers, and family members wanted an insane criminal and his gang of lawless thugs to take over the government, again, after he did things like kidnap thousands of children the first time around and some of them were never returned to their families, and all the moral injury and moral stain of Trump is on the shoulders of every American as long as we live. The U.S. is a diseased, sick country because almost half of its people are diseased, sick people.

I did my good deed today when picking up my AARP Tax Aide packet, an elderly lady who was also signing up said she didn't know how to answer the question of digital assets, she didn't know what that was. The two elderly ladies at the desk also looked boggled. I jumped in and said it means cryptocurrency, crypto, and if anybody tries to sell you any, it's a scam and don't spend your real money on it. They thanked me for that advice.

Today is my mom's birthday, she would have been 86. I was close to her until she voted for Trump and laughed about it, which broke my heart.
My dad outlived her by 2 years, during which I had few communications with him. He said during his last year that the previous year since mom died had been the worst year of his life. When I got a message from my oldest brother that dad had died, I was walking out of work with a coworker next to me. I said, stunned, "Oh. My dad died." My coworker asked if he could do anything for me and I said, no, we weren't close.
Every year on the anniversary of my younger daughter's death, it's one more spin of the trauma wheel for me, while the older one doesn't even remember the date. She says they weren't close, and that's true. They were separated by 6 years and a lot of unhappy family issues. I was very close to the younger one but never was close to the older. We try. It's not great. When I'm dead I think she'll tell people, "It's ok. We weren't close."

People -- such as USG decision makers -- don't seem to understand what these crappy LLM tools do. They don't know anything. They don't think. They're not smart. They don't reason. They just replicate patterns with whatever's in their training set. They'll plug bits and pieces of that together and might spit out something true, or might spit out something that's complete bullshit but fits a trained pattern. Someone has to get this through the brains of people in govt who spend money on this snake oil and use it to make very consequential decisions affecting people's lives.

Current flu season is a 15-year high. Several children have died. News reports haven't indicated in all cases whether the children were vaccinated or not, but I have seen some of the reports noting children who were not.
#Flu vaccine doesn't necessarily prevent infection, and may not prevent getting sick. I got the flu several weeks after my vax this year.
