I disagree. The only servers that should be blocked are those that fail to address their users who engage in unwanted tagging. That's harassment/abuse. It drives away users. I could support a list of servers somehow so verified.
But to go further than this is a kind of censorship of content allowed elsewhere on the web. Stuff we basically never stumble on while browsing. Without algos here, it will never be forced on us.
I can easily see posts critical of Israel called antisemitic.

I believe he addressed these concerns under the sections titled "The Flywheel" and "The Gmail Problem". new apps still end up giving more users to bluesky. and the protocol is designed in such a way that centralization is encouraged.
under "The Chokepoints", he acknowledges you're correct ala blacksky. but that's a huge ask. but they're not fully independent yet and it's hard to believe most would ever be happy with the alts' functionality if bluesky went full adversary re them.

if you're using someone else's stuff, they should be able to say "no go away". but then the question becomes about the structure of the system. is it decentralized enough? where it isn't, there need to be rules about equal access but also respectful use.
AT and AP differ here because of the AT relays. without access to them, you're excluded. here on AP, you just find another server. assuming you can find one that interoperates with most of the network. so see above access and respect.

Can you elaborate? Obviously communism did fail but I don't think we've seen the kind of libertarianism he's advocating for. Variations of a mixed economy and representative democracy work pretty well.
And we've had plenty of fights between those generally on the left. Look at how Bernie was treated. Most advanced nations have universal health care but Dems don't even advocate it here. And we have poorly regulated immigration. Open borders is libertarian.

The podcasters who hate the mainstream media build their shows mostly off reporting done by those same outlets. While they obsess when the #M5M gets something wrong, the vast majority of their commentary accepts it as fact, so that they can use it to complain about what lefties and Dem politicians are doing. What constitutes the bad moderation at #bluesky?
For me it's tough because wanting a diversity of perspectives also requires making it as easy as possible to find a place with different policies while not losing your connections, and never having stuff pushed on you via algos etc.
I can't say I understand their situation very well but I'm conflicted. I'm upset they don't do decentralization well yet I'm probably with them at being annoyed at being told to censor more. IDK

the 2A was put in place to get buy in from the states for a federal government with more power. at the time, local and state governments could limit access to guns as much as they wished. it was only with the 14A did 2A limit local and state regulations as well. and not till Heller did SCOTUS decide we had much more of a personal right firearms, but even that's not absolute as Scalia said.

I think most people would like to talk to people with different politics if we didn't normalize that the culture around those conversations should be rude. Maybe we unintentionally collectively decided that getting anything to improve was so impossible that we'd get more out of using politics for entertainment instead of trying to reach consensus and compromise.

If this is correct, why would any server want to federate with a server with that term in their domain name? Shouldn't you assume that their users would intentionally try to annoy your users? Thus making the overall fedi a place most people wouldn't want to spend time in? It doesn't matter what their politics are, they are welcoming and encouraging the one thing we should be deterring here. Unwanted mentions. Basically the worst version of spam. #fediblockmeta

right. so which one can give the musician everything they want to allow for having their singular but independent "home on the web"?
I think bandwagon is thinking ahead by also providing a fedi account. the next step imo would be all the sites together sharing some protocol that allows for a decentralized spotify. everybody using whatever they want, but with money flowing to artists. my dream.

we need to understand that social media is at least two things. wanting to go worldwide viral vs just wanting to keep up with communities, friends and family. sometimes they overlap, often they don't. we don't serve either well by not recognizing the distinction. they also need different moderation policies etc.

maybe the early web.
but I'm a weirdo re fedi culture. it's too restrictive for me. I think we generally don't recognize how much more of a diversity of opinions we could welcome as long as we focus more on unwanted tagging from any side and less on misinfo and shitty opinions expressed to no one in particular.
so if the money brings annoying people but we just keep people from spamming and being assholes to each other, we'll be able to coexist like we do on the open web.

when you believe in free markets as your religion, what do you do when it fails?
blame anything else, never admitting that it was just CEOs chasing profit. it was a conspiracy of evil elites that hate America, who keep it secret with pedo blackmail. they made bad trade deals to hurt us, not to increase stock prices. they let in more workers, not to lower labor costs here but to destroy our communities.
