Thank you for posting this. I really need to hear things like this so I don’t give up because I’m feeling really worn out. I’m not one who has found life to be a lot of fun. I’ve had a lot of great things and many rewards but god I worked hard. Much much too hard and I’m so tired. Plus fighting politically especially for lgbt rights. I suffer from lifelong suicidal ideation, since age 12. So having encouragement from people like you, or seeing someone like you at a protest makes a world of difference to me. So thank you. You are a very beautiful human being and thank you for reminding me there are others out there who feel exactly the same as we do.

Glad to hear. I had a shoulder issue as well several years ago. Torn rotator cuff, both shoulders. I had surgery on the left one and the full recovery was so long (much worse than my cervical fusion a few months before) so I decided to wait for the right shoulder. At least now, I cannot tell the difference. So I saved myself months of recovering from a second shoulder surgery.

My Dad was relentless. He did not want me to be different or at least not show it. I did everything wrong and for the first 18 years of my life, he was relentless, especially that he himself hid his disabilities (physical, from polio at age 2). I hate confrontations but often am involved in them. I’ve been trying to avoid them more in recent years which is why I take my dog with me. It helps me deflect my attention away from the people around me and to my dog instead. People make more room for me. I hardly look at other people. Aka lot fewer opportunities for things to go wrong interpersonally. @npub10v4…s27h

I don’t think I ever had a cold last so long. I’ve had worse illnesses (like flu) but never was I ever sick on/off for 6 weeks. I got very little done during that month and a half. I used guaifenesin which seemed to help with the mucus that was descending. For me it was almost like a bronchitis that didn’t quite take fully. I’ve had people tell me that maybe it was Covid though I tested negative.

Thank you for going yesterday but now forward it should be rest, rest & more rest. The cold I had now quite a few weeks ago, spanned 6 weeks. Six!!! Back and forth. Just when I thought it was all ok, I’d relapse. I was coughing mucus by the end. The good news is it did eventual go away completely. It felt like it never would though. Get well soon ❤️‍🩹

A number of people I know had this also. It’s a tough one to knock off. One day it seemed gone only to resurface deeper down my chest the next. I wear a mask out there so I blamed me husband for not wearing a mask. He still doesn’t but hopefully he knows to walk away next time a friend with a cold is not being careful. I have so many health issues already that I did not need a cold. But I’m trying to let go and not obsess to the point of divorcing him. After all we’ve been together 37 years. 😆

Glad to hear shot your progress but sorry about your husband. Appointments alone do take a lot out of a patient. I was amazed while visiting France once when I got sick that a doctor came to my bedside, at my friend’s apartment. I hope things take a turn for the better very soon for your husband.

I have to find a before picture too. The vegetation is quite scorched in places but other places it’s just the house and the garden is intact. Or a while neighborhood gone except 4 houses in a row. Or everything looks fine then you go across an intersection and it’s like the place was bombed. I’m still quite shocked by it all and it’s been 3 months. I don’t look at news much anymore but I seem to recall big fires on Colorado. Did it burn part of your town? Those fires are fierce and frightening though quite a lot of homes were saved because some people stayed or went back.

Good Morning from #Pasadena. Resumed our walks in #Altadena this week. Our first walk was great; where we went there had been virtually no damage. But that wasn't the case of our latest walk.
This area was a beautiful neighborhood full of amazing old houses and trees. At least 1/2 of those old houses seem to be gone, at first sight. But it's hard to tell with so many trucks everywhere.
Not feasible driving around for a look and I stay on the beaten track away from trucks and bulldozers to avoid too much toxic dust, especially with Moses.

Spring is so full of hope. Just seeing this reminds me of it better than here. We do have these types of landscapes here with the right combination of flora, but it's a bit unusual still and not as dormant. I was brought up in a place where there were huge amounts of snow in Winter and omg Spring felt so nice though I absolutely ADORED winter as a kid: playing in snow, building forts, etc.

Good morning from #Pasadena.
#FireWeather and #HighWindWarning starting at noon again today… All should be fine given how much was already incinerated, but dry high winds will now be a lot more scary for most folks around here, I am sure of that…
Today our high should be 18-22ºc (64-72ºF) with mostly sunny skies. Heading out to the gardena again this morning and I think I will be doing some watering as well as continue the post-storm cleanup though I've already accomplished a lot of it. Hopefully the last day of that.
Many plants love #CaliforniaWinter weather conditions. One of the many plants that chooses to bloom in winter is the #CrassulaOvata (aka #JadePlant). Its flowers are pink and small but with so many beautiful, tiniy details. Nature is absolutely amazing??!!

Good morning from #Pasadena. 🌞 (though likely with smoke) and a high of 21°c (70°F) today.
Will try and have a semi-normal day today but very shaken still.
We were so, so, so lucky. The winds died down Wednesday early morning and hardly blew again contrary to what forecast predicted. Otherwise I’m sure our area would be gone too. Buildings were leveled through a huge portion of #Altadena and the fire was only a mile from our house and moving this way when the winds died.
I feel so terrible for all the people who lost everything. Many lost both home and job with the fire.
So much of Altadena is destroyed, it’s hard to even describe.
Moses and I will be at the park for the first time since Sunday (I think but I’m so confused with days). In fact we’re leaving imminently with 1 gallon of distilled water because water isn’t safe to drink in many areas around here atm.
Thank you to all of you for your support, thoughts, prayers. Again, we were so, so, so lucky you have no idea. Going to the dog park now will be my first since before the storm and fire.

This has been a very stressful day, with the #windstorm & now the #wildfire.
Because the noise in the house made it seem so scary, I decided to work in the garden this afternoon to get more at ease with the wind and I was doing quite well until my neighbor called me to tell me a wildfire had broken out only 2 miles from where we live: the Eaton fire.
Despite lots of smoke and strong winds, the fire appears to be moving away from us at this time. A number of Pasadena & Altadena neighborhoods have been evacuated but we’re still ok here and hope that doesn’t change. Sadly some houses were destroyed.
This is the most violent storm here in more than 13 years when a very destructive storm caused extensive damage in Pasadena, Dec 1, 2011.
Here is a video from earlier this evening when the fire was visible from our house. Parts of our street only 4 blocks east of here, is still under an evacuation warning.

A bit on the #HalfEmpty rather than #HalfFull mood wise atm so I’ve been doing pruning for days as I find it #Therapeutic with the advantage of getting a job checked off ✅ the list.
Here is a little video I shot this morning of what I call #DatePalmDaggers, from a #PhoenixReclinata aka #SenegalDatePalm. It’s one of my worst plants for dangerous thorns.
This palm’s trunk is up to my chest so with the vertical top fronds fully extended, this is ~12-foot palm tree. The daggers are the first leaves at the base of the fronds. After a few set of 2-3 daggers start the softer leaves though pointy too.
Everytime I work on fronds I have to be extremely cautious and focused. And this is with the daggers mostly pre removed early as the fronds unfold vertical to horizontal.
The daggers point at different angles and crisscross along the base. I don’t even compost those. They go in the garbage. The frond on the video had some daggers preventively removed but there were some left as you can see.

Good morning from #Pasadena. Apologies for the long silence. Challenging week it was but it's all uphill from here. I hope. Weather incredibly nice overall.
My poinsettia which was nearly dead in Summer and made a comeback with the arrival of cooler weather is looking beautiful (imo). It’s not as red as the hothouse ones, but I do love it when they have dark green and bright red together (or I'm just making excuses LOL). Maybe I will plant it in the ground this year to replace the one I had before (alas in a bad place and died…)
Today should be partly cloudy and about 24ºC (75ºF) so perfect winter weather. So much better than Summer, here. So remember that when we're broiling in 6 months :)
Time for us to be off to the dog park. Moses came whining. He's saying “you're online too long. enough. let's go!!”

I’m one of the “slobs” who almost never clean his sidewalk of leaves. 🍂 I tell myself that’s the way nature loves things. That’s my excuse anyway. I do own a leaf blower but I think they are better used rarely.

Been quite busy lately which is why I haven’t posted much personally.
Plus I just had a consultation yesterday with the psychologist with whom I’ve been undergoing a comprehensive psych evaluation which confirmed that I am “officially” #ActuallyAustistic.
I knew that already but strangely it’s kind of a big relief for me to finally find people specialized in autism who actually understand me without having to jump hoops to prove it. People who are able to help & recommend means of support.
I pursued the dx because as I age with a number of serious health issues, I felt that autism is something I needed officially recognized when I seek healthcare or other forms of help.
For instance I would like it recognized that if I get very upset or emotional when pushed unnecessarily, it should not be grounds to throw me out of a hospital, on the street, in my pajamas and without money or a wallet, like happened to me in 2018 at Arcadia’s Methodist Hospital after an afib ablation, an entire night awake with chest pain and them presenting me papers they were insistent on me signing (after the fact) saying my stay may not be covered by insurance!!
The way they treated me was abuse and I should have been reassured and helped with a severe anxiety attack, not thrown out. I was NOT violent.

Good morning from #Pasadena. Quite chilly here this morning with only 4ºc (39ºF) atm. Sunny today with a predicted high of around 17ªc (63ºF); early wintery weather for us.
Here is a pic of one of the many #CraftsmanBungalows in our area, in an neighborhood called #BungalowHeaven. I love the sidewalk that was created using reclaimed bricks and concrete. This house is typical of some of the nicest houses in our area. A lovely style with big eaves that shade the house from the high sun in Summer.
I took this picture walking back from the car repair shop where I took my truck last week for new shocks and tires. It was time, after 24 1/2 years with the same shocks. The ride is amazing now :) Tires I had changed several times during the same period, of course.

Good morning from #Pasadena where it’s quite chilly this morning with a low of 4°c (39°F) 🥶
As my now retired psychiatrist would say #TodayIsAGoodDay: weight good, blood glucose improving, made an appointment with a new GP/primary care physician (because I’m sick of the current one downplaying my need to control my glucose and telling me I should eat healthy when I eat better than 99% of the people), beautiful weather.
Really, what more could I ask for especially with all of you great friends here!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend. Here is what I used to call on the dead bird #CompostingStories which shows how I use shredded recycled paper in my compost as well as paper grocery bags to control certain pests such as fruit flies 🪰
With compostable plasticky bags, I always make sure that there’s plenty of moisture as well as heat and so far the bags seem to be decomposing, though I’m still early in this experiment.

Good morning from #Pasadena. As my now retired psychiatrist used to say, today is a good day. And as my father used to say “Arrêtez d’avoir peur et croyez au succès” (Stop being scared and believe in success.) My life was good, though tough, thanks to such people guiding me with positive thinking. I am a very negative person when I let myself go.
Off to start the day. My weight is great. My scale info shows so much improvements. My glucose is doing well despite a bad eating day yesterday but where I ate stuff that is ok, just unbalanced. Me metabolic age dropped 1 year! Wow! 🤩
Time for Moses to head for the park, once I eat a little something. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

Your post really made me feel better and you may have helped me not leave fedi where I get so much support and have so many friends.
I was unbelievably negative and I had my best night in a long time and feel energized despite my visible tracker device figures being out of whack. I won’t explain but it’s a device that helps me plan my day and pacing and how much I can afford to do that day. I only got a 1 today. Usually a 2 is very low for me. So I’ll try to keep that in mind as I go through my day.

Tonight we say “Good night & see you next Spring” to #AndyTheTortoise as he ends his 104th sunbathing season.
Andy was found in 1936, age 15, wandering on a desert road nr Pyramid Lake NV. The finder was a mason from the SF Bay Area, out in the NV desert for a bricklaying job.
Andy had been written on his shell so he was a pet, not wild. He took Andy back to his house in the Bay Area where Andy lived with him, then his daughter, for the next 74 years.
We became the daughter’s neighbors, then good friends in the 1990s when I worked in SF & when she had to move into
Assisted living in 2010, Andy came to live with us in SoCal, where he has been enjoying his retirement for the last 14 years.
Tonight is the beginning of his yearly brumation which lasts ~6 months, during which he is kept cool & dormant. He neither eats nor drinks.
Here he is during his hydration bath & subsequent air/sun drying. He then goes into his big cooler (for temperature stability) lined with towels where he will be in the dark the entire time, sleeping & chilling, literally and figuratively. I check on him from time to time but no more than once weekly just to make sure he has reflexes & is doing well. He normally hisses as soon as I open the lid which normally confirms all is fine.
I feel so honored to have been chosen as his keeper ♥️

It’s also that I have difficulty communicating symptoms to doctors and get ignored or sent home without treatment, like when I had a mild heart attack but had undiagnosed severe blockage which required quad bypass surgery and after about 4 hrs in ER they said I had nothing & would soon be discharged; fortunately a cardiologist who was being called about this said “no” and had me admitted. He most likely saved my life.
With more info, the complaints become more credible plus the risk of malpractice goes down. Undiagnosed and asymptomatic was my medical history 25 years ago. Now, I have such a long history and medications list people actually pay a lot of attention. I’m lucky. Others in the same shoes often die unexpectedly

Good evening from #Pasadena. Life is very hectic, but making a lot of progress health-wise.
This new device is a godsend. I started using it 3 days ago. It’s a Continuous Glucose Monitor & is providing me with my blood glucose levels continuously, in realtime.
I now see how some foods are causing glucose spikes & if my glucose is too low, often without warning.
I have learnt more about glucose in 3 days than the past 63 years. Wow!
I am not sure how long these have been on the market OTC (this is not one by prescription) but I wish my doctors had recommended it.
I have also been referred to an endocrinologist even though I won’t be able to see him until Jan 2.
But in those 2 months I should be able to make useful observations & better dietary decisions using these devices.
I’m logging all my foods and making notes in the biosensor app to identify what causes spikes and how bad they are.
I can also try combining foods in a certain order, to minimize the spikes.
I am feeling so encouraged. My GP aka primary care physician was not as helpful as I would have liked but my cardiologist who has a big stake in this recommended the endocrinologist, as diabetes affects the heart. He is one amazing doctor.
I’m hoping that this will lead to better care and better health 🤞

Relief!! We’re not going to lose touch. For a moment I was quite worried. I haven’t noticed the negativity I’m sorry. I haven’t been as active lately. My husband ordered this porch swing from Polywood.com. It arrived with missing hardware. They wanted 3 days to ship. When I said they could have the whole swing back, they said they'd ship the part overnight. But they didn't drop it off!
Today I asked for a $100 credit for the inconvenience, so I would not return the product (it had cost $600+). They did not respond but somehow got the part to UPS & it'll be here tomorrow.
BUT while frustrated, I'd looked up info about the company & discovered they operates out of rural Indiana and rural North Carolina. RED FLAG!
And sure enough, this company's CEO is a MAGA nut who forks his profits off to the GOP.
Enough is enough. I'm a gay & not going to give money to MAGA. No way!!! This swing is going back for a full refund. I'm not going to give money to polywood.com just so they can fund the Republican party's plan to put me in a gas chamber.
This experience makes me want to leave this country so badly. I am so sick to live in a country where so-called christians want nothing less that strip me of my human rights and dignity and put me 6' under. I am SO sick of guns. Sick of the violence. Sick of the disrespect. And sick of dealing with companies that are funding a party which does everything in its power to encourage violence and domestic terrorism.

Yes. When they start, they really get obstinate. I have a weird relationship with the ones at our house now. I let them eat stuff but they sometime go overboard and I have to behave erratically and then sometime they get less daring. But they can be a lot of work.

I use to live on the 28th floor of a 30 story building with a pebble dash exterior. Squirrels used to run by up and down the side of the building next to my balcony. I would leave the patio door open but one day they started coming in discovered I had nuts-in-the-shells in a bowl and proceeded to bury them in my couch. So I started closing the door till they stopped. Then left it open again until one morning I woke up and 6” from my face there was a big squirrel sitting on my radio alarm clock. I had to start keeping the glass door fully closed and even then they tried to eat the rubber seal around the glass. 😱
