Yo @npub1qny…95gx on yesterday’s @npub10ut…xdlq , you mention @npub1acg…p35c's nostr client, Gossip.
I’ve been using it for a little while now and agree - it is a fucking outstanding client.
You described Gossip as an “incredibly hardcore, freedom-first nostr client that you can run on desktop”, which bears similarities to Sparrow Wallet.
The UI-UX is indeed quite similar to Sparrow, and it’s a pleasure to use. I’m wondering (in the interest of taking full advantage of this client), what are the “hardcore, freedom-first” aspects that you’re referring to?

Not really, or rather, not most of nostr. But it’s not impossible.
I believe one could choose to only use relays that connect exclusively via onion routing, and only use a nostr client in Tor browser (or a mobile client with Tor always enabled).
But if that content is ever published to any other relay, then it becomes clearnet content, and if you connect to any relay on clearnet (ie not via onion links) then your activity & content is no longer deep/dark.
I may be missing the more advanced/nuanced technical details here, but to the best of my knowledge that’s basically it.
Perhaps a privacy pro like our dear friend @npub1f6u…zcka can elaborate on this, or correct me if I’m missing something(s) 🫡

Okay. I’m a big fan of @npub1get…0nfm Hub, and I’m usually very content with it. But the past few hours have been very frustrating.
Node with plenty of good-sized channels and sufficient liquidity.
Receiving wallet (node) online with plenty of receiving capacity.
While attempting to move funds (say around 1M sats) to the wallet, nearly every spend failed, to the point of needing to pay 20+ smaller invoices to get the sats across, with many of those payments failing too.
Nothing in my setup has changed. Why is it like this?? That was 2 hours of my day lol

For users who don’t “need” nostr yet (for its censorship-resistance, etc.), what are some reasons for a user to join this network’s social-media layer? (Paraphrased).
Here’s one… nostr is arguably the only network where you can show up, brand new, no “following” or af spend, and immediately start connecting with real humans about real stuff, and have an actual SOCIAL experience online.
Think about Twitter for a sec. Between the KYC, outrage algorithms, and promoted content, it’s damn near impossible to build a following, never mind a community. Same with the other platforms.
Hop on over to Nostr, drop an #introductions post and our happy #plebchain is at the ready to welcome you, offer technical pointers, and zap you, first thing.
You say hello and strangers literally start asking “hey nice to meet you, can I send you money?”
You show up and people want to be your friend and give you the best money ever discovered 😆
Trigger-happy #zap culture aside, you enter into a thriving social community on day one, where our favorite thing to do is boost your post and help you find other users who share your interests.
One could argue that nostr provides (among other stuff) the ONLY real social media network that a normal person can actually use.
There is no second best.

In those moments, when you notice that anxiety come up, are you able to engage with that part as though it’s a child that you’re raising? Where his response to the world is understandable based on his experiences and perceptions, but isn’t an accurate view and therefore an opportunity for you to “parent” this part? (This can be applied to many thought patterns beyond anxiety, of course).

It’s a good question.
The answer is that even if some (or all) relay or node runners in that jurisdiction shut down, nostr and Bitcoin are global protocols and there will always be other nodes and relays outside the control of a single government.
And that doesn’t even account for the people who will continue running nodes and relays despite a ban, anonymously, because it is the right thing to do. #note1whm…xg5w

How the fuck can an “always on” or “kill switch enabled” VPN just turn off without warning - like the application just closes and vpn shuts off - and yet there is no notification provided whatsoever to the user??
I’ve encountered this on mobile and desktop. Mullvad and Nord. Not even while doing anything particularly sensitive, but I try to have really good privacy hygiene, so when this happens it is extremely frustrating.
Especially at 3am when I’m tired and wondering what I did wrong (even though I’m pretty sure I didn’t).
Does this “just happen”? Double check VPN is active every time you pick up the device? Grumble grumble feeling rugged grumble

Do you have Orbot downloaded as its own app, or does Amethyst have a built-in version?
If the former, you should be able to run Orbot as a “vpn” for the phone and all of your amethyst traffic would presumably run through that, without even needing to touch the Amethyst settings.
