I worked at GitHub for six years starting in 2019. There's this persistent rumor that after the MSFT acquisition they got pushed onto a bunch of Microsoft infra.
For the entire time I was there github.com continued running primarily on bare metal. Newer stuff like Actions and Copilot do use Azure, and there are some new enterprise cloud offerings that run in Azure.
What has changed and made a bigger contribution to this instability is that GitHub traffic grew by hundreds of %.

this could totally be a one-off but my friend (who I originally referred to Hover back when they were sponsoring all the podcasts) was trying to get help last week getting a domain working right with Google Workspace again and their formerly legendary support was just awful, not only failing to actually help, but suggesting that because she was trying to use Google Workspace she was trying to use a competitor's products and was thus not entitled to help?

one of my long term hopes for AIs is that they'll be able to help us tear through navigating a really complex codebase with the help of relying on things like the type system and just automating the tedious things programmers to do try to correlate one thing in one part of a codebase to another thing that might be several calls away.
I get why it's hard but it's tedious in a way I feel like computers should be able to help with!

what I ultimately strive for are doctor visits that feel like a collaborative problem-solving conversation where I'm the driver and they're the navigator.
I think so many patients come in and are just completely passive about stuff and doctors get a bit callous.
And I like to think that I've read enough Aubrey Gordon books that if a doctor tried giving me attitude about weight I'd be able to give them a piece of my mind.

metformin honestly sounds like it’s perfectly suited to your symptoms and is probably good to stick with.
Doctors are really pushy about GLP-1s nowadays because they’re weight obsessed but one of their side effects is boosting insulin production which sounds not helpful in your case.
But yeah, stay the course! You’ve got a really solid grasp of the issue and that puts you ahead of 90% of patients (and maybe even some doctors tbh).

you can get really nice looking glucose results with keto but many believe the fat consumption makes the insulin resistance worse which puts you in a situation where you really have bad outcomes if you deviate.
When I was first diagnosed with diabetes I took this approach and I had amazing numbers but it’s a difficult diet to sustain and there’s a lot of disagreement about the long term value of it.
This shit is hard!

this isn't an official GitHub statement but I will say that GitHub overall went through an effort a few years ago to unblock users who are in sanctioned countries but exclusively doing open-source work in compliance with US sanctions law.
No idea what happened in this case but it's my understanding that's still our policy, and it really is something we believe in.

do you plan to be on the low carb diet up until you take the long oral glucose test? If so, you might see a higher spike than you otherwise would because the body will be adapted to the lower carb intake.
Hoping your doctor actually orders the test for you instead of being dismissive!

there’s a lot of tribalism around diets and keto in particular! I suspect that different people experience very different results and as a result they all feel really strongly that they’re right because their lived experience shows it.
I’m excited to hear what your results look like, especially considering that you’re starting to go lower carb but your blood sugar isn’t elevated but even a little low.

all those scenarios are kind of the same underlying cause which is insulin is grabbing your available glucose you need for energy to store it in cells, and that would indeed explain the symptoms!
Hopefully your doctor can test your insulin levels.
If that’s the issue there are drugs that can reduce insulin secretion which would likely give you relief.
Glad you’ve been able to get more data points; it makes a huge difference.

Yeah, I'm not sure! I know these CGMs tend to get approval in Europe before the US FDA approves them, but I also know that the US lets you buy a lot more stuff over the counter than you can in Germany.
I hope you're able to collect a bit more data about this! If nothing else, knowing you were a little low even after eating a meal can be a useful if you want to try to help your energy levels with some carbohydrates.

diabetic here!
If you're able to, I would encourage you to try to get access to a continuous glucose monitor sensor and use one.
A single data point isn't super helpful but being able to get a line graph over the course of 1-2 weeks will tell a much better story.
You also don't need an Rx to get a sensor now; there are some OTC options: https://www.goodrx.com/classes/medical-supplies-and-devices/otc-continuous-glucose-monitor-faqs

I didn't feel like getting up at 5am but I rolled out of bed at 8 and scored my preorder of a blue 256 gig Plus in 10 seconds! 😎
