I don’t think this is related to relays. Nostr replies are “non-consensual”, anyone can reply to everyone unidirectionally.
Maybe we could have something that asks for OP’s signature to make a “reply” stick around so blocks would be more effective.

Contrast that with facebook, where you can set it so only “friends and friends of friends” can reply to your posts.
Not everyone wants a public discourse, or forced association.

IPFS worked just fine with alternative IPv6 meshnets such as Yggdrasil and CJDNS last time I checked, though it needed some config changes, should work with FIPS too.

Maybe it’s a good idea to have some exponential backoff/throttling when the signer fails? I’m sayng that because Clave relies on push notifications to work and boy, my phone did not have a good time when I logged in and the errors started coming through.

We know for a fact it’s one of the tools used by dark patterns, and it appears to be working for big social.
“Hey that sucker hasn’t opened the app in a while, let’s send a push saying one of his friends liked this meme to get him back”.

It all circles back to what kind of people we would like to see on nostr. The average person is no different than an iPad baby, dark pattern works. If we want to bring in more autists then we do, idk, p2p note replication over FIPS or something.
The primal “cache” server (backend for frontend as @npub1jvx…7yqz puts it) approach should make it possible to appease both groups, at least in theory.

Content creators don’t want to pay to post, but will take a 40% platform cut on all of their earnings with a smile from ear to ear.
And let’s not forget to learn from previous mistakes: LBRY/Odysee provides a single click, mirroring service from YouTube for the low, low price of free. Few creators bothered clicking the button, why is that? Could it be the lack of financial return? Lack of algorithm to push their content? Lack of users? Bumpy launch? People scared of the questionable free speech featured on the home page? Bad UI/UX? Etc.

Sorry, I wasn’t trying to nitpick semantics, actually I think we’re somewhat aligned.
My point is that the keypair we currently use in Nostr doesn’t have all of the features required for a digital identity. As I said before, it lacks, among other things, mechanisms for delegation, rotation, trust scores (think of GPG) etc.
As I see it, a remote signer can only postpone the inevitable, regardless of how far away a CRQC really is, since nostr has no key rotation mechanism, your nsec can’t really tell people where to go when you create another keypair using another algorithm.
I know that @npub16xn…6z6l and @npub1jvx…7yqz are working on more robust solutions for the identity problem, but right now the recommendation is not to be reckless with your nsec but to be aware of its limitations and act accordingly.
Right now, cross referencing your npub with GPG or other social accounts is advised.

I get the general sentiment. For instance, push notifications from Nostur and Ditto arrive so delayed I almost always end up replying people from Primal, Damus or Yakihonne.

You could store/retrieve the nsec from the password manager or use a passkey, neither which require copy/pasting the nsec around.
But I don’t think this is the strongest argument against raw dogging the nsec.
