I think the cause is a bit more complex, and not exclusive to them?
The constant exposure to altered imagery enforcing a certain subset of beauty standards portrayed as "normal" or "every day", while in reality requiring plastic surgery, hours of make-up and lighting prep and image manipulation on top. I.e. It's wholly unrealistic for the vast majority of the population.
It... it harms adolescents, ruins women's self-esteem and gives *everyone* unachievable expectations.
The unhealthy beauty standards set by the tabloid industry of the (f.ex.) the 90s and 00s is down spoonfed to us all through Snapchat, Instagram and other similar platforms. It's so not healthy for people :neocat_sad:

AA: 40 euro games, sometimes pre-order, sometimes DLC, but often larger and better quality like expansions. QA and release quality varies, but generally good.
Indie: 20 euro games, what's DLC? Developer casually interacts with community in Reddit/discord/etc. for QA/Quality to ensure people like their game.

no reply-guying here, you bring out some great points, I want to highlight and add to this:

Because this is absolutely true and one of the best things about fedi.
I want the platform to always have this aspect, but also be able to function as a general-purpose social media platform as well. This comes from a (admittedly idealistic) goal of having an open, democratic form of social media be the standard, so that no single entity controls it.
However, I do not have all the solutions. I think this is something that will take many great minds years to figure out*.
Big and complex topics like this are difficult to break down into concise posts without losing some information. Especially so when some of the context affects vulnerable groups or sensitive topics.

Fedi's lack of growth comes down to the cumulative effect of the points highlighted in this thread has on existing, new and potential users. It is effectively [gatekeeping](https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/gatekeeping ) the wonders of the Fediverse from the masses through an artificially small [target audience](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Target_audience ) and [groupthink.](https://www.britannica.com/science/groupthink )
For the platform to be sustainable in the long-term, we need to reduce the amount of artificial social complexity introduced. This means to alleviate inconsistent community rules, and recognize that a majority of people's opinions will fall somewhere in the middle of a bell curve, which may not fully align with our own ideals.
Engaging with people you disagree with is an important and healthy part of human socialization, and it is required for collaboration.
Alternatively, the platform will continue on its trajectory of [fractionalization](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/fractionalize ) and restrictive speech until a general audience will no longer be able to integrate.

Fedi's has a distinct echo-chambering problem, as a direct result of the flexibility and distributed nature of the platform.
In part due to what's mentioned in the previous two posts, but it fundamentally comes to how fedi pre-emptively dictate not just how, but who people are allowed to communicate with through opinionated lists at an administrative level.
This is effectively [shadow-banning](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_banning ) groups of people (servers), due to rumours and/or disagreements between individuals or a subset of the group's members. Cutting off communication between the groups entirely while enforcing a binary "with us/against us" view, where a middle-ground cannot exist.
By definition, these behaviours will continue to fractionalize fedi into [echo chambers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Echo_chamber_(media) ) that will expand further away from each other while disincentivising finding a common ground.
By setting personal ideals as required rules of cooperation between divergent servers, we self-sabotage the platform as a whole

While Fedi's hidden rules usually have good intentions at heart, they are fundamentally exclusionary in practise and stagnates the platform's growth.
Examples:<li>Content warnings are subjective and will never be consistently used. Yet, we shame anyone who don't use them in a way that fits an individual world-view.</li><li>Hashtags, both in number, usage and even positioning within a post, gets frequently called out. Even though, we actively push new users to utilize them.</li><li>Pins are great for holding onto posts that mean something to you, but awful when they're used as a mile long corporate ToS that you must fine-read and agree to, before interacting with the person.</li>
Many of these can be summarized as "I don't like the way you expressed yourself" but instead of just saying that, it's framed as: "you are a bad person for not thinking and expressing yourself like me"
These are opinions, **not** rules required for a community to function, or guidelines upon which moderators act on in order to prevent abuse.

A lot of (but not all)* Fedi meta is effectively modern-day witch hunts, and more often than not akin to personal vendettas perpetuated by [cry-bullies](https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/crybully ) Internet investigators driven by strong opinions and fuelled by their own heavily filtered and censored echo-chambers is not an attractive feature of this platform. It's one of our biggest flaws.
This is regardless of whether the complaint is accurate, factual, or it being something people in general actually care about. If people did *a fraction* of what they're accused of on fedi, they would be serving prison sentences, not writing meta posts.
I can't help but see the parallels from a lot of the discussions about 'meta' (rumours) and the way teenagers communicate in the halls of a high school. It's just so immature.

er helt utrolig at de har latt Märtha (og sønn) oppføre seg slik som hun har gjort og likevell beholde prinsessetittelen.
Fra å misbruke prinsessetittelen ved å blande seg inn i sønnens voldsbruk, ringe ofre, hente ut øknomisk fortjeneste på alkohol, snakke med ånder, date en gal sjaman... slik oppførsel hadde ikke vært passende for folk flest, og er helt uholdbart for noen som skal i monarkiets kontekst fungere som en moralsk pekepin og rollemodel.

When I applied for gender-affirming care, the current estimated time until intake was 18 months.
That's 27 months ago, and I was recently called for the one and only update I've received since then. "Yeah the waiting list hasn't moved at all since you applied". Meaning I still have 18 months left, 27 months later.
This is the real & worsening state of trans related care in The Netherlands, the country that fucking came up with the usage of puberty blockers (GnRHs) in GAC.
The Dutch can do better, they just don't want to.

The way Dutch LGB people tends to treat both Trans rights & Pride really, really, really comes across as "we got our rights, now we don't care". If you push, then "you" are the problem and should "doen normaal". The hypocrazy and lack of self-awareness at times is mind-boggling.

It's weird that we can have giant pride festivals with hundreds of thousands of attendee's here in The Netherlands, but mention that the average time to treatment has gone from ±6-12 months to 3-5 years and nobody's interested in listening.
Dutch law guarantee's specialized healthcare within 4 weeks, which is a joke in practise.
This is the downside of fixed budgets, you cannot, ever, react to the fluctuations in demand. You either have people wait unreasonably long, or you're wasting money, as you can't reasonably downsize or shift capacity either.
