SeedSigner v0.8.6, the "Bigger Picture" release is out!

Support for larger displays means on-screen text is easier to read and makes more efficient outgoing QR communication possible. The new display hat shown below incorporates one of these larger screens.
Seven new languages -- French, Chinese, Catalan, Dutch, German, Italian and Japanese -- mean many more people can now interact with a SeedSigner in their native tongue. The map below gives an approximation of what our updated language coverage looks like.
More languages are coming soon, including right-to-left languages (e.g. Arabic, Persian, Hebrew, etc.) that will add significant additional global coverage. If there is a language you would like to see in an upcoming release, there are relevant instructions in our release notes.
As usual, you don't have to take our word on what makes up the release binaries; our releases are reproducible and instructions to build your own binaries can be found at:

For clarity, the SeedSigner only stores keys temporarily until power is disconnected, but it does make getting comfortable with multisig a lot easier. ☺️ #note1ura…uywq

As of right now, just one, but progress on more is ongoing. But you're missing the point, it's not worth it to target the entire RPi supply chain at this point, and even if you wanted to target individuals, less than 0.01% of RPi products likely will end up as SeedSigners, so who knows which ones to pick. Whereas, at a certain point in a HWW's life, it's known that the device will be used to store PKs, and an attacker further knows that just about every device is going to someone who will potentially use it for that purpose. Different tradeoffs.

We don't have a PR budget or a marketing department, so it's up to me and our users to refute false claims made by established, or aspiring, hardware wallet makers.
If I have not been as clear on this as I could have been, or emphasized it enough: Our model has not changed since the outset of the project. Our software intentionally runs on simple, inexpensive, widely available commodity hardware with no software authenticity mechanisms.
This means that our users are responsible for verifying the integrity of the code they run on their SeedSigner, because you can run any code that you would want to on the device (with great power comes great responsibility). If maliciously modified software is run on a signer, there are exploits that can be attempted. Dark skippy is an optimization of an already known attack approach, but does not expose any new fundamental weakness to our approach to cold storage. If users verify they are running our released code (which is a quick and simple process) our security model remains robust and one that myself and all of our contributors fully stand behind.
Instructions to verify our releases are available in the repo, and if you haven't used your signer in a while, or if you have any concerns about who has had access to it, just re-verify and re-deploy our software and you are all set.
I will continue to beat the drum about this as best I can. Our L1 storage model is by design intended to be as trustless and permissionless as possible, for those who want to minimize their reliance on or trust in third parties, and also as a fallback for people in parts of the world where hardware wallets are unavailable or the attempted acquisition of them could come with personal risk.

In truth, I took a step back from SeedSigner development 3 or more years ago. 🤪 I wrote the initial versions of the software but I'm just an amateur coder and had the project been limited to my coding ability it wouldn't be what it is today. I focus more on helping connect contributors, helping others understand the project's raison d'etre, supporting users, designing enclosures, and other things that come up.

Some notes on this:
Every morning I get up and work for bitcoin, but this is a a bit more literal... 😜 As many of you know I build and sell signers as a way to get them into more people's hands, and to support my individual work on our project. The revenue from the signers and other things I sell in my online shop (https://btc-hardware-solutions.square.site; Entropia, Go Kits, SeedKeepers, etc.) is how I'm able to cover expenses related to the project, and to travel to conferences and meetups where I can share information on SeedSigner and what I've learned during my personal bitcoin journey relative to cold storage, given my unique background. Here and there I'm also able to help cover some of our family's expenses.
When we recently transitioned to a new approach to user donations at https://donate.seedsigner.com I intentionally withdrew myself as a donation recipient. I wanted our most active technical contributors to be the ones benefitting from donations, directly receiving periodic digital monetary expressions of gratitude over time as the project grows and reaches more and more bitcoiners. (As a side note -- if you're a user or otherwise receiving value from our project, I'd encourage you to send some sats their way via the above URL.)
As for myself, I've always offered to sell signers p2p for bitcoin via DMs / email, but for a long time I've been wanting to level up in that regard. Over the last weeks I've finally gotten a proper LN node set up, where I also run @npub155m…dcvg and a modest (for now) web presence. I need to express a lot of gratitude to @npub1l5p…4q0n, @npub1r7p…nspg and @npub126n…e9ll for their help as I've worked to become more of a 1st class bitcoin citizen.
With planned trips to Nashville, Atlanta, and Amsterdam to represent the project on the horizon, I'm looking to stack some sats that will help me continue to spread the SeedSigner gospel of a more trustless, more self-reliant approach to saving with bitcoin. It's been some time in the making, but our latest major release, SeedSigner v0.6.0, dropped last night and it's a monster...

This release has been ~8 months in the making and includes work from more contributors than any other previous release.
0.6.0's marquee feature is SeedSigner OS, that includes a custom Linux kernel created using Buildroot (https://buildroot.org).
(big kudos to #[0] & #[1] for all of their work on this amazing leap forward for our project!)
SeedSigner OS's key features include:
. Remove microSD after start-up
. Networking/BT/swap/usb removed from kernel
. Deployment image is ~100x smaller
. Build from scratch with minimal commands
Other new features in 0.6.0 include:
. Receive/change address explorer
. BIP-85 deterministic seed derivation
. p2tr (taproot) signing
. Compact SeedQR enabled by default
. MicroSD removal & reinsertion notification
. Keeper coordinator option
. Various UI tweaks & minor bugfixes
SeedSigner OS may also open the door for some interesting new features down the road, possibly including reproducible builds, PSBT transfer via MicroSD, and others... 🤞
Many of us are also very excited about #[2] ’s work on NIP-26 delegated signing using SeedSigner — many of the improvements to our current feature set will serve to enhance that functionality if/when it is introduced.
