That's my hope. In my case, I think it was a genuine addiction. I had a bunch of anxiety about switching off my smartphone but I need to make a change. I spend too much time absorbing "content" or reading about global horrors that are entirely out of my control. Not because I really want to but because it's easy dopamine. Hopefully, by making that a little harder to do, I'll be able to focus on things I actually want to do.

I had a really nice sandwich yesterday and you're the only person I can think of who would appreciate it so now you have to hear about it. 😅
You start by making a sauce of mayonnaise, grated garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper. Spread that on toasted bread and layer on pickled peppers, sliced tomatoes and anchovies. If you can find nice tomatoes you should whip one up.

Want to know something funny? People in Spain don't speak Spanish. Spanish is a New World language. In Spain they speak Castellano, Gallego, Basque, Catalán, and a bunch of other languages. If you show up in Spain speaking Spanish, they'll understand you but that's not what they speak.

Here's a nice bit of Spanish for you. Tocayo is what you call someone who has the same name as you. I often see it translated as namesake but it really doesn't mean that you're named after the other person. Tocayo just a way of acknowledging that you share a name.

I bought one and it was okay. Mine didn't have a strainer so I still had to filter the milk and it was actually more difficult to clean than the blender because it couldn't go in the dishwasher. Finally, I've got a big family and it made fairly small batches. Maybe not an issue if it's just the two of you but I would have to run it every day.

I bought a dedicated GPS that works way better than my phone. YouTube is becoming less and less useful by the day. Google is blocking side loading of apps. And, Gemini AI is in everything. I think I may be holding my last Pixel phone. Luckily the market for semi-dumb phones has been getting more and more interesting lately.

In San Francisco, I was an extra in a Japanese film. I was walking by, the director liked the way I looked and had me walk through the back of a scene. I didn't speak any Japanese so I don't know what film it was. The scene was at the bottom of Lombard Street. A young woman in a white sweater was standing by a blue Volkswagen talking to a man on a motorcycle. This was 91-92. I was a big guy with green hair in a brightly painted leather jacket. Most people don't know that Colorado and New Mexico almost came to blows over who had the best chile. The whole incident culminated with the government of New Mexico erecting a billboard outside of Pueblo Colorado that read "150 miles to real chile". We're not petty.
Also, while green chile is often called Hatch chile, Hatch is a town in New Mexico, not a kind of chile.

I was at Lee Lee down in Tucson and bought this Ku Ding tea without actually knowing what it was. 😅
I guess it's not really tea per se but rather an herbal part of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Good for clearing the head and supporting the heart and circulation. It's also supposed to be super bitter. I'll let you know how it goes. #tea #tcm #kuding

2/2 I got to setup but got a divide by zero error before loading the desktop. My search eventually lead me to the depths of Usenet where I found an old support article about this problem. Turns out that GEOS uses some timing tricks to get decent performance out of old hardware but doesn't like to run n on "fast" systems. The problem was Qemu. Designed for use with modern VMs it was just too fast. I was able to eventually get the MSDOS6 VM to work but FD14was just too efficient. #retrocomputing

I was running in the desert south of Phoenix. I took a nasty spill but had the presence of mind not to lock my arms. So, I was badly scraped up but otherwise uninjured. Absolutely no one commented the scabs on my face and hands until I stopped at the Vietnamese grocery in Tucson. The old lady at the checkout took one look at me and said "what happened to you?" I told her I had tripped while running. She paused a bit then said "it's better to tell people you were boxing". 😂 #running

Hey my vegan amigos, for the longest time, one of the hardest things about not having milk was just how terrible dairy free cheese was. Luckily, things seem to be getting better. I was thinking about it and there are a lot of similarities between Ark in Space (1975) and Alien (1979). Unstoppable, exoskeleton covered aliens that use humans to brood their young, check. Tense scene crawling through maintenance ducts never knowing when the aliens might strike, check. Crew in plastic covered sleep pods, check. Killing an alien with a rocket engine, check. The Ark in Space was great! Excellent story, ambiguous villains and fantastically cheesy effects. I loved it! Now I'm on to The Sontaran Experiment. It follows on directly from The Ark in Space and is shaping up to be just as good. Kudos to the props department for the evil robot! #scifi #drwho

I found Dr. Who during the Tom Baker years so that's what I'm watching. I just finished Robot which was ok. Sort of a transitional story arc but not super interesting. However, after that comes Ark in Space which is, as the kids would say, a banger.

When I was a kid, my parents weren't home much. I would get home from school, fix myself something to eat and tune into PBS to watch Dr. Who. Oxalic acid can also lead to kidney stones. 😬 I'm not too worried about the levels in spinach especially since I don't eat it that often. Sadly sorrel (which I also love) is really REALLY high in oxalic acid. So tasty! But, having seen my dad suffer through kidney stones, I steer clear.
