This is a good set of insights! After thinking of the web as “democratic” and “easy to access” for so many years (which no longer seems true or like a pure good), I appreciate your reminder that browsers and their underpinnings are hugely complex.
Books require more effort to produce, distribute, and acquire. But I treasure and revisit my many books!

I’ve never programmed a turn-based RPG system before! But I want to try. Anybody have any tips or favorite resources, especially for #godot? But I can translate from other environments :)

feelin real bad about my bod lately. and lamenting that I’ve never had a chance to “feel hot.” I never liked my body pre-transition; even at my fittest, when could run 5 miles a day, the only reason I felt okay was my partner saying I looked good.
but post-covid exertion malaise and depression has meant I’m in the worst shape of my life. it’s not that I weigh more; I just FEEL bad. and want the chance to look cute in a dress. but everything feels wrong on me 😑

yes to both!! I’m over halfway through DQ Threemake, and it’s delightful! Really lovely use of 3d environments that keep the vibe right. I also really enjoyed the first rpg-style Like a Dragon! :D

Are there any good turn-based RPGs on PS4/5 or Switch? akin to SNES games like Chrono Trigger or Dragon Quest? I’ve played and loved Chained Echoes.
I don’t want action-rpg; the whole point for me is to avoid time pressure. I also, honestly, don’t want to have to read a whole bunch (I have books, thanks)
I feel like there’s a whole genre missing, which would be rpgs that don’t try to tell a huge story, but invest in mechanics

not me putting on Ani DiFranco's "Dilate" and flashing back immediately the summer before I turned 18, sitting in the parking lot of my job, crying softly to this album out of an inexpressible sadness that I couldn't sound like her, couldn't have the queer experiences that led to these songs, that I was so moved but felt that it wasn't *for* me, a dorky suburban "boy"
growing up unknowably trans was punctuated so often by moments like this
anyway give this album a listen, it's powerful!

starting out with "diffusion can produce an entire game" and ending with "it only generates 3 seconds of gameplay after watching infinite footage of an existing game that only fools people 40% of the time" including nividia's marketing assertion that in 5 to 10 years ALL game graphics will be generated this way... is such an enormous stretch that it verges on journalistic malpractice :)
