thanks for this, I had similar questions. Kind of weird from a cybersecurity perspective to see them call defense against Chinese nation-state cyber objectives xenophobic, considering the decades of evidence that China has supported all kinds of cyber exploits and has had access for we-don't-know-how-long at the network hardware level to all kinds of communications at the highest level. Like yo, do a little looking before you just make assumptions.

Right, well despite your best efforts you're highlighting something that goes to my point, inmate fire crews have a better chance at getting jobs after getting out. This program is a successful anti-recitivism effort. How successful it is, we could continue to debate, although by doing so you would capitulate to my argument.

Yeah I read it. There's not much in there tbh. My statistics are from the current inmates who are literally there on the front lines of a wildfire that is still burning. They are signed over to the firefighter crews so if some get pulled to hold a nozzle that seems perfectly reasonable to me.

They can get their convictions expunged and join a firefighter academy to be trained further, or they can get their convictions expunged and get a job in landscaping or some other thing.
Watch the video I posted before you run your mouth off any further. I don't think you have enough information to be this uptight about something that you aren't living with. I'm fourth-gen Californian; you're French. This is not relevant to you the way it is to me. I have family in LA.

First off not only did I vote for no coerced labor, I'm also an abolitionist. But it's never OK to spread false info regardless of the topic.
I don't really care what a website says, I heard the figure from their own mouths in an interview of inmates at the Palisades fire camp that I watched.
IDK what you mean, active nozzle. They are not trained on hoses, engines, any of that. They are only qualified to clear trees and brush.

Those are not comparable; the inmates in fire crews are not forced. It is a volunteer position and based on the interviews of them that I have seen, they would still volunteer to go even if there was no work requirement in prisons. This is a badly researched article. Not even the pay rate is correct, it's $1/hr and they work 24-hr shifts (as do many firefighters). What's more the fighting they are doing is really specific to wildfires, they are clearing brush and trees.

the scariest thing for me is even if he's gone forever day after tomorrow (God willing!), thrown in jail or whatever, the politics he stoked are not going away. We will still have to fight against appx. half of the country (??) about voting rights, civil liberties, reproductive rights, birth control, environmental protections, fair labor practices, health care, public education, etc etc etc.

what i wish for in this moment is for local communities to begin to plan around becoming a combo of self-sufficient and really good at trading with other nearby communities for resources that aren't available or sustainable from within. we have to start getting ready for a wide spread collapse because this is going to get worse before it will get better, over the next few decades.

I keep coming back to this, the Jordanian FM Ayman Safadi speaking abt the peace process w/ Israel. He calls out Arab nations in particular but Iran is also one of the members of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, the group of 57 countries he's referring to.
It's not only that Netanyahu wants to stay in power. It's also all the people who would have to give up their homes to move out of occupied Palestine to make this plan work.

I wholeheartedly agree but I wouldn't put it on the press -- they could modify the way they cover him but the thing is, he _is_ the Republican nominee for POTUS. If it weren't for McConnell's failure to convict after either of his impeachments... if it weren't for the GOP nominating him again (and his mega-donor supporters), Zelenskyy would not have met with him, the press wouldn't cover the latest antics and we would hardly see him in any news stories.

can we please start talking about abortion as an issue that affects every American? Because when a woman needs one, she didn't get there on her own. And (to put it gently) you can't convince me that the parents of teenage _boys_ aren't just as concerned with whether his HS girlfriend has access to an abortion as _her_ parents are. So yeah. Reproductive rights for women is an issue for all of us, protecting those rights is something _everyone_ should be fighting for.
