Everyone has different fitness goals, but to me it seems silly to only train to lift more weight at the gym
If you're not doing anything to improve athletically, then basically you're just training to be better at training.
I see these gym rats walking around with their arms out like they're carrying luggage everywhere they go and I'm like, "great, but what can you DO?"
All things considered, it's better to be strong and have muscles than not, but if you're not training any cardio or doing anything athletic, you're missing out on a lot of health benefits and functional improvement that carries over into every day life.
I've got a relative who is about 20 years younger than me who is an obsessive lifter. It's all he talks about. It's all he thinks about.
But he looks fucking ridiculous. He's all puffy and stiff, muscles stuffed into a body that genetically was built to be lean.
He does ZERO cardio. He does nothing athletic. He doesn't move well and is inflexible.
What's the point. All this time, all these supplements, the high protein diet...why? It's not like he's even that impressive. Guys like him are a dime a dozen.
I took him to a boxing gym once for an old school workout and he puked. Almost twenty years younger and he couldn't hang. Granted, I was in the habit of doing that stuff, but that seems absurd to me that someone who spends that much time in the gym can't translate it to other athletic activities.
Life isnt a squat rack.

All I've done is contribute to this society. I pay my taxes, take care of my house and property, volunteer coach sports, chaperone youth outings for the church, support local charities, raise good kids, be polite and friendly, and leave things as good or better than I found them.

I go to a beach near me to help chaperone a church youth event. Beaners are everywhere, making an entire day of cooking out and playing their shitty music loudly. All of them are fat.
I walk my wife the restroom and next thing I know some motherfuckers are doing donuts in the parking lot like you see on YouTube in the hood.
Wife says don't engage and walks into the restroom
I walk over hoping to snap a license photo and see 8 Hispanic punks. I instantly lose my shit, tell them this isn't the fucking ghetto, there are kids here and knock it off.
Punk ass beaner opens his car and roots around like he's looking for a weapon then waves me over with one arm hidden.
I tell him I don't need a weapon.
He starts giving me the gang sign bullshit, so I retreat and call the cops, then remember I'm with a cop as well.
I find my cop buddy. He's not carrying because we're at the beach. As we're discussing the situation, the beaners are circling in their vehicles and mean mugging me. One pulls up and says what's up.

I'm like, cool then take off.

This shit is my Iike 7 miles from my house. This is my neighborhood. I live in a nice area and pay insane property taxes to get away from this kind of shit.

I will say that as a Christian, I never once asked "why my dad" as far as his Alzheimer's. We live in a fallen world and awful things happen. And the rain falls on the just and the unjust alike.
However...as far as HUMANS go, Alzheimer's is a relatively blameless disease. We just don't know for certain what causes it, so we can't for certain avoid it.
But HIV is spread almost exclusively through male sodomy. It's entirely preventable. Yet we're all supposed to feel sorry for those who infect themselves while almost no one says a word about Alzheimer's, despite the fact that it affects far more people.
