I’m not sure if this was the case with you, but I often have to correct people about what they imagine it was like to grow up in a Cape Cod house from the 1780s. Sounds romantic and cozy on paper until you factor in things like woefully weak insulation, absurdly warped flooring, and never-ending issues to upgrade ancient plumbing / electrical / roofing / etc.
