- using existing tools that play nice with each other and everything else because they aren't designed for vendor lock-in
- writing your own tools

answer: that takes effort. people don't just do stuff like a random walk through the space of all possible life choices, they do what they value. that value typically lies in enjoying good times and cold beers with friends. the only way to change that is by offering them money to do what you want. red hat had money and funded the adoption of its inferior technologies to the exclusion of the pre-existing superior technologies. we aren't doing the inverse.
