I went with TP-Link Matter switches and they've been working great so far. Google Home even immediately detected them and offered to pair them, which I kept having to swipe away because I'm using Home Assistant, dang it :meowpout: Was your phone able to detect them at all and just failed at adding them to the network, or what happens exactly? I've installed five so far without any problems (I literally knocked on wood just now though cuz I'm gonna jinx it otherwise :blobfoxthinkgoogly: ). They're definitely pretty cheaply made so I'm not surprised you ran into problems though.

When I was installing wifi switches with we got [Kaufman RGB switches](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B1CKWV7K ) specifically for the ability to turn off the relay inside of them to just use it as a switch for smart lights. They work really well but they're not Matter or anything and use ESPHome which is why I didn't want to install them for my parents even though there's lots of places they'd work well here. :pupper_wag:

And yeah Z-wave should definitely have better range since its on its own frequency.
