I was just watching a video about when the Congo fought off its colonizers in 1961, the leader of the rebels was tortured to death and his body dissolved in acid until all that was left of him was ONE TOOTH. ...And his family didn't even get THAT back until fucking 2022.
The UN had tried to step in, but the Secretary-General was assassinated en route to ceasefire negotiations. People do try to make the UN a properly helpful, principled organization, but other folks (like the CIA) sure work hard to keep it a tool supporting imperial abuse.
Haiti was actually forced to pay reparations to their slavers, how's that for backwards. They're still being punished to this day, for winning.

Well, committing atrocities against people for years and years makes them angry enough to do some pretty fucked up shit. So, the abuse really needs to be stopped BEFORE more people are so tormented they flip the fuck out. Unfortunately, the atrocities are ongoing so there's a lot of flipping out lurking just under the surface. Still. Sooner the better.
