this is a legit UX problem
cake is supposed to have implemented background sync so it will automatically do it periodically, avoiding the long wait when you haven't synced in a while.
I don't use Cake so no idea if background sync works over Tor
it's faster if you have a wireguard tunnel to your local network and run it over clearnet
