I don’t think it’s related to USAID. It’s just going/gone out of fashion and been quietly dropped by all but the genuinely mentally unwell, the same as anorexia in the 90s or cutting in the 2000s.
Which leads to the depressing question of what will be the next wave of self harm for teenage girls.
