That said, VBM DOES involve some real tradeoffs vs in person voting. It trades reduced assurance against coercion for increased accessibility. Is it the right tradeoff? That’s a public policy decision, and different states come down in different places here. It does seem to be very popular with voters, which is probably why we’re seeing more of it.
