This film needed to be wild, violent, funny, tragic, & deeply disconcerting to deserve the title of The Odyssey, & it was not.
O Brother Where Art Thou remains a much better telling of The Odyssey than this. Mind you, it doesn't really go for Themes & a Message the way Nolan does in this, but maybe that's because Homer's Odyssey isn't a fucking modern narrative anyway. I think the Coen brothers, nihilists that they are, are much better suited to tell Homer's tale than Nolan is.
