In my dark moments I would not be surprised if there will be a war on crypto. Citizens using non-approved crypto (the government issues a white list of sites that are allowed to use crypto, the rest is banned) will be fined, and if repeated, jailed.
I think in the worst of possible world, perhaps the BBS can make a comeback.
Instead of using the internet, we'll revert to phone and ham radio to dial into BBS systems.
