I remember this from the 1990s: the debate over the "post-scarcity" society.
That is, if we had real AI robots and replicator tech, what would be the basis for the economy?
Shortly after this Silicon Valley began talking about the "attention economy" but really they meant advertising, ironically to subsidize the losers they had already hired.
I rejoin with this:
* In a post-scarcity society, real estate will get increasingly valuable as humanity breeds out of control
* Because robots can become warbots or crimebots, security will become a major industry
* As population rises, freedom from pollution, noise, and light will become valuable
So even with post-scarcity, the economy re-invents itself.
