Wrong way round if this is at all true! "Equality" means equal outcomes, "equity" means equal oppprtunities. If we expect equal outcomes (authoritarian socialism) everyone in a given group will be the same. If we expect equal opportunities (democratic socialism) then everyone will take the opportunities that best fit them, leading to a more diverse yet prosporous society.
