there's so much evidence to suggest your assertion of it being a feature and I agree. But even if we simplify the broligarch's motivations to be just rent seekers, this is the ideal setup. They're seeking rent on property they didn't even have to build, do not own, and supplying to an eager populace (generalization incoming) who care more about ease and the appearance of competence than actually being competent. Stuff (life, all of it) is complicated and if you're wired/trained to accept magical thinking then of course you'll put stock in people who *sound* smart and simplistically tell you what you want to hear... And by people I mean broligarchs, politicians, cult leaders but also LLMs made in their image. But hearing thoughtful engagement on threads like this keeps hope alive!
