Antibiotics take several days to work. That's why taking them early for incidences of sepsis for example is important. Even with a shot already in your butt you're essentially unmedicated for 48 hrs. Even powerful ones aren't doing a great deal for the first couple of days. Most are coming up truly effective into days three and four, and take just as long to wear off after you stop taking them. Average of four days for regular antibiotics, long acting ones, around a fortnight.
