Then, there was “the mass problem.” I’d tired wizards turning pebbles into mountains, so I made limitations. A short, thin shapeshifter can’t become tall and broad.

There are 22 Rules of Magic, but also literal books on how it works. I spent over a decade developing it before I started writing.

Basing it in nature, and therefore a branch of science, made it seemingly static, yet evolving and not fully understood
