He's doing the only logical thing, as Ai, Robotics, and Automation become more, and more efficient, and just as capable as most humans, the logical thing is to layoff more, and more people.

Become more profitable, and downsize, until its just a few executives left over, then those with the most shareholder power sit on the throne, as the unwashed hordes of commoners suffer.
