All the dark blue areas are high ground, 600-1000m asl. Quite a match with an elevation map.
Ireland has hills, but they are scattered all over. While not an obvious barrier to rain bearing air (it gets to us in southern Scotland) there is plenty of orographic rainfall - seems to rain every time I'm on one of their hills.
