I found the Ireland map interesting because the two main cities on the island are both built in the driest areas - however even a dry area by Irish standards is a wet area by global standards. Possibly this means that Belfast and Dublin are where they are partially because it's dry enough for the ground to be firm.

Also, Ireland has the same "dry east wet west" effect despite not having any mountains to cast a rain shadow.
