GPON is generally asymmetrical by design, very rarely do you get 2.4/2.4Gbps out of the ONT, and in Aus it's definitely 2.4/1.2Gbps.

Most consumers don't care about up, just down, so it makes sense from an operator point of view.

And, yeh, to a degree I get that, and it's why I have 1000/50 instead of a lower number in front; two kids playing computer games smashes my connection.
