The second issue is: why is all this water required?
Data centres use water to move heat. Taking that heat and releasing it into the lakes will cause the downstream lakes to be too warm, likely killing much of the aquatic biome which has developed to meet natural seasonal highs and lows, and is already struggling with human-caused climate change.
There are many other issues as well, but these are the top of mind for me.
