That's a big step, so people struggle to reintroduce state left ideas even as they have failed in the rest of the world. Generally they have some idea that Europe is social democratic, or that China is Communist, rather than both being different flavors of state capitalism. America is provincial so Americans never have to test their ideas against what is actually happening elsewhere.
